Former Yale RB and All-American selection Calvin Hill will be Yale’s honoree at the Ivy Football Association Dinner on Feb. 7 in the Broadway Ballroom of the New York Marriot Marquis.

A reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and a black-tie dinner begins at 7. The dinner will feature former Yale defensive star and master of ceremonies Jack Ford. The event chairmen includes former Yale RB William Primps. For more information on the event, go to ivyfootballassociation.org.

Hill, a 1969 graduate, was a two-time All-Ivy selection and broke Albie Booth’s record for career touchdowns. He was selected in the first round of the 1969 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He earned NFL Rookie of the Year and All-Pro honors that year. He spent six seasons in Dallas and became the team's first 1,000-yard rusher. Hill's career continued with the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1974.

He has been a consultant to the Cowboys since 1997.

Princeton DL Mike Catapano, Harvard QB Colton Chapple, Brown DB AJ Cruz and Cornell QB Jeff Mathews are the finalists for the Bushnell Cup, the Ivy League’s Player of the Year.

Mathews is just the second player to be twice named a Bushnell Cup finalist. He won the award last year. 
The winner of the Bushnell Cup will be announced on Monday at 12:30 p.m. and will be streamed live FootballFoundation.org with access on IvyLeagueSports.com.

Yale So. RB Tyler Varga has been selected to the All-Ivy League first team.
Varga, the youngest player on the offensive first team, led the nation with 194.2 all-purpose yards and led the Ivy League in rushing with 116.9 yards per game (13th in FCS). He also earned second team All-Ivy honors as a return specialist.
Varga is a candidate for the Bushnell Cup, the league's player of the year. Finalists will be announced on Nov. 27 and the winner will be named on Dec. 3.
Sr. RT Roy Collins was selected to the league's second team. Jr. LT West Gavin, Jr. C John Oppenheimer, Sr. RB Mordecai Cargill and Sr. CB Collin Bibb were all named honorable mentions.

Yale defensive end Beau Palin has been named next season’s captain, which was announced Monday night at the Bulldogs annual team banquet at The Commons at Woolsey Hall.  

“It’s a tremendous honor to be appointed a leader by men I respect so much. The guys who’ve come before me, I’ve learned a lot. Our senior did an outstanding job of establishing the process and moving forward, I can’t wait to take the next step with this group of men, as one team, with one goal in mind. I’m very excited.”

Palin, a 6-foot-3, 247-pound junior from Milwaukee, Wisc., finished with 43 tackles and four sacks in his first season at defensive end. Palin was previously a tight end.

The Bulldogs ended its season with a 34-24 loss to rival Harvard and finished the year 2-8 (1-6 Ivy League).

Elected by his teammates, Palin is the 136th captain in program history and the first from Wisconsin. He also earned the team’s Hammer of the Year Award for the team’s top hits.

Yale did not sell 200 of its 5,500 tickets for Saturday's Yale-Harvard game at Boston, according to a Bloomberg report.
The report stated its the first time since 2006 Yale hasn't sold out its road tickets for The Game.

Sr. TE Jordan Jefferson has sued the city of New Haven and seven police officers. Jefferson was tased and arrested during a downtown raid of a night club two years ago.

Yale sophomore running back Tyler Varga hopes to be back on the field Saturday at Harvard for the 129th edition of The Game, after missing last week’s loss to Princeton with a knee contusion.

Varga leads the nation with 199.4 all-purpose yards per game and tops the Ivy League with 119 rushing yards per game. A Kitchener, Ontario, native Varga has never seen a Yale-Harvard game before. So his first experience will be on the field.

"I’m really excited," Varga said. "It’s one of the most storied rivalries in college football. There’s so much history and a lot of hype. I’ve never played in front of that many people before."

QB UPDATE

Who will be Yale’s starting quarterback once again remains a mystery.

Starter Eric Williams missed last week’s game as he continued to nurse a shoulder and foot injury. Backups Derek Russell and Logan Scott have missed the last three games with injuries. Yale has used Varga out of the wildcat. Junior Henry Furman saw his first full game under center last week with Varga sidelined. Furman looked solid going 18-for-28 passing for 184 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed five times for 28 yards.

"It’s going to be whoever has the best chance to win and whoever is healthy," Yale coach Tony Reno said. "That’s the best answer I could give you there. I’ll know better Saturday at 11:50 a.m."

MISSING PIECE

Harvard is the only Ivy League team this year’s Yale senior class has not beaten. The last time the Bulldogs beat the Crimson was 2006.

"It’s obviously a fun game to play in," Yale senior Will McHale said. "It’s a storied rivalry. It’s a game that a lot of people care about. It’s fun playing in front of a lot of people. And it’s a game that I haven’t won yet. That would be a phenomenal way to go out, to get a win against Harvard would mean a lot to me and the senior class."

CHESHIRE’S RAGONE INJURED

Former Cheshire standout and Penn senior quarterback Billy Ragone dislocated his left ankle on the final play of the third quarter in a 30-21 win over Harvard last week, according to Philly.com.

The Quakers could clinch the Ivy League title with a win over Cornell on Saturday.

SOME YALE-HARVARD STATS...

Yale leads the series 65-55-8. Harvard has won 10 of the last 11 meetings. There have been 55 shutouts. The Crimson have won three of the five games played on Nov. 17. Yale is 7-6 in years ending with two.

IF YALE LOSES...

The Bulldogs will finish 2-8. That will be the Bulldogs worst season since 1997 (1-9) and its fewest ivy League wins (1) since 2001.

Harvard has canceled Friday’s junior varsity football game with rival Yale because the Crimson do not have enough healthy offensive lineman.

Saturday will mark the 129^th edition of The Game, as the Crimson host the Bulldogs at noon.
