The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with former Yale defensive end Jake Stoller. The 6-foot-3, 284-pound Stoller will participate in the team’s rookie minicamp, which runs May 4-6. Stoller had 4.5 sacks and 15 tackles in 10 games last season for the Bulldogs.

According to Total Sports Coverage Yale recruit Ryan Dillard, a DB who had originally signed with Yale, is now headed to USC.

With the spring session behind them, here's a few things the Bulldogs will need to address before the upcoming season.

*How it will be played: The Bulldogs will be broken up into two teams: Blue and White. There will be two 30-minute halves with a regular scoring system. Teams will kick off.

RUNNING BACK PICTURE
Senior RB Mordecai Cargill will be the Bulldogs main ball carrier. That’s no secret. The 6-1, 215-pound back ran for 530 yards and five touchdowns on 118 carries last season.
Who else will be in the picture?
Sophomore Wynston Bouknight (5-9, 170) and senior Javi Sosa (5-9, 196) will also see touches. Bouknight had five carries for 25 yards last season, while Sosa played junior varsity.
"Winston brings different speed to table," coach Tony Reno said. "He’s quick, elusive and runs hard. He’s a good east-west back. Javi is a grinder. He grinds out yards."
SHORTHANDED AT TE
With Keith Coty and Mike Leunen out with injuries, Kyle Wittenauer, Adam Conklin and Ryan Stanney have shared time at tight end.
Reno said Coty will be the starter and will be ready for the fall. Coty caught 12 passes for 75 yards last year.
POWERS UPDATE
I was talking to senior defensive lineman Chris Dooley and he said former Hopkins star John Powers has been impressive this spring. Dooley said he expects Powers, a senior DB, to really emerge this season.
"On speical teams, he’s a maniac," said Dooley about Powers. "He just goes and hits people as fast as he can."
POSITION CHANGES
One reader asked about position changes.
The notable ones include junior Beau Palin shifting from TE to DE. Look for a story on Palin on Friday. Junior Henry Furman has moved from QB to WR.
"He’s never played there," said Reno about Furman. "He has to figure it out. But he’s big, strong and could run."
THREE-MAN RACE
Reno wouldn’t say much about the Bulldogs kicker situation, comparing it to the one at quarterback. The Bulldogs have three kickers on their roster in Kyle Cazzetta, Philippe Panico and Parker Toms.
We’ll see what happens on Saturday.
SPRING GAME
Speaking of Saturday, the Blue-White Spring Game will kick off at 2 p.m. at the Yale Bowl. It will consist of two 30-minute halves.
RENO ON SCHEMES
"We’re multiple on both sides of the ball. If you watch us play, we have a power run game, zone run game. We have five step, we have three step. On defense we can be in an odd front or an even front. We will mix it up."

Yale recruit Mikhail Reece won the National Football Foundation Tampa Chapter’s Scholar-Athlete scholarship, according to TBO.com.

RISING SOPHOMORES
With a handful of injuries head coach Tony Reno had a short list of rising sophomores. He mentioned OLs Ben Carbery and Will Chism. Both are working hard and playing well this spring. Carbery is 6-5 and 275 pounds from Oak Park, Ill. He received the Charles Loftus Award given to the Bulldogs most valuable freshman. Chism is a 6-3, 280-pound lineman from Ridgeland, Miss. He played junior varsity and served as a backup last season.
Grant Wallace is the last one. He’s a 6-foot, 180-pound WR from St. Louis. Reno called Wallace a “very technically sound” player. He played junior varsity last year and caught 62 touchdowns in his high school career. His father Robert Wallace worked in the front office of the St. Louis Rams for 16 years.
WHITELAW LOOKING LIKE FRONTRUNNER
Tony Reno has said Jake Semones, Henry Furman, Derek Russell and John Whitelaw are all in the running to replace Patrick Witt at QB.
It looks like Whitelaw is leading the pack though. He took the majority of snaps late in a practice earlier this week and a few players have said Whitelaw has stepped up and taken on a leadership role.
Whitelaw was the only other QB besides Witt, who threw the ball last season for the Bulldogs. The 6-1, 205-pound junior played in five games.
MOYER OUT
Someone asked about Senior LB Wes Moyer. He will be a medical redshirt and return for the fall. Moyer finished with 26 tackles last year and earned Academic All-Ivy League honors.
OPPENHEIMER PLAYING WELL
John Oppenheimer started at center in all 10 games last season, playing nearly every snap.
WR Cam Sandquist says he’s really taking control of the line and coming into his own this spring.
“From the outside looking in, you see him leading everything,” Sandquist said. “He really seems to have a grasp on what’s going on.”
CARGILL RUNNING STRONG
Senior Mordecai Cargill is expected to be Yale’s lead RB in 2012.
He was second on the team last year behind Alex Thomas with 118 rushes for 530 yards and five touchdowns.
“He’s had an awesome offseason,” said Whitelaw about Cargill. “I’m excited to see a big year from him. He will put a lick on someone, but can also make you miss. He’s really talented and has a lot of skills.”

Former Yale linebacker Jesse Reising is helping veterans transition from combat to college through Operation Opportunity: Warrior-Scholar Project.
The initiative will be on display during Yale’s Blue-White Game on April 21. Fans attending can contribute to the project. Funds raised will go to the Warrior-Scholar Project, a workshop hosted at Yale from June 3-10 to help veterans transition from combat to college.
Due to violent collision with Harvard running back Gino Gordon in the Bulldogs 2010 season finale, Reising had to disenroll from officer training candidate school in the Marines.

Yale will host the Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive on April 19 at the Yale University Commons (168 Grove St.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The drive is held in memory of former Bulldogs women’s hockey player Mandi Schwartz, who died of cancer last year. The drive is led by the Yale football, women’s ice hockey and field hockey teams.

I asked head coach Tony Reno if there was any update on the QB situation and he had this to say: “They’re all working for it. No one yet. We’ll hopefully have that shaken out by the end of spring. There’s no frontrunner right now.”Yale’s four QBs are: junior Harry Furman, senior Derek Russell, junior Jake Semones and junior John Whitelaw.

When talking to McHale, he gave some insight on the Bulldogs defense so far this spring.
McHale said he’s excited with the progression of the young defensive line and that athleticism should make up for the lack of size on the defensive end.

Junior LB Beau Palin has shown an incredible motor. Senior DL Chris Dooley has been looking strong, as well as senior LB Ryan Falbo. Sophomore LB EJ Conway has emerged and McHale said he has tremendous potential.

The secondary seems to be one of the deeper spots on the defensive side of the ball. McHale said Collin Bibb and Kurt Stottlemyer have been standing out in the secondary.

“It’s going well,” McHale said. “Coach is pushing us hard and we’re proud of how guys are reacting. We’re taking it day to day and focusing on improving.”

Reno on offensive and defensive lines: “I’ve been impressed with the young offensive line, impressed with how hard they’re working. The same goes for the defensive line and how hard they’re working. Both groups have really made strides in four practices. As far as technique, they’re getting hard and low. I’ve seen improvement, definitely improvement.”
