Yale expected to add McGowan, Stevens to coaching staff
Yale is expected to name Sean McGowan as its new defensive coordinator and Jordan Stevens as its new defensive line coach, a source said.
McGowan, a Cheshire native, served two seasons at Boston College as the program’s special teams coordinator and SAM linebackers coach. Prior to that, he most recently coached at Temple and New Hampshire.
Stevens comes over after serving as Maine’s defensive line coach.
The expected hirings come after the resignations of defensive coordinator Rick Flanders and defensive line coach Carlton Hall.
The Bulldogs, who finished third in the Ivy League last season, allowed 29.9 points per game (fifth in the Ivy) and 410.8 yards per game (fourth in the Ivy).

I like this move very much.Good luck to them both.I hope to see Yale have a D that will dominate.
Cheers Jon Harris
Jordan Stevens may help with scouting Yales opponent Maine.
Very good addition.

Expect to see ciotti to move to a non coaching role
Why did McGowan leave BC?
For all you wizards out there what makes you think just because of a coaching change the defense will be any different this year.
Why is it that everyone is always so negative on this blog. This is a big step in the right direction for yale.Give the new guys a chance please some of us want to see yale succeed. walt yale blue.
Hey Walt whats up buddy.? Hope to see you and Ray soon.
Not all the bloggers are negative.8:07 pm looks to be a
little pessimetic. But hey to each is own.
How do ya like that,I did'nt call
it an idiot or Jackass.
Cheers Jon Harris
I would agree as long as Reno is coaching the defense will be bad. A few transfers and a player would should have been suspended lead to an 8-2 year. It will all come back.
a player who should have been suspended?? what are you talking about? Who ARE these trolls. What trash
Defense showed what it was capable of the first half of the Harvard Game. The talent is there, just need the right guys to nurture it.
It seems like fumbles, dropped passes and penalties actually bailed out the defense in the first half.
Yale was sixth in the league in pass defense much work needed there.
Will Reno let McGowan have an input on the defensive scheme? Reno is scared of his own shadow and ultra conservative. McGowan was at BC the last two years and they were ultra aggressive.
Reno scared of his own shadow just another stupid remark. Flanders was the conservative one bend but do not break mentality.
To 4:28 How do you know BC was ultra aggressive did you watch any games?
They televise football games it's 2015. Not rocket science to find ESPN and watch a BC game.
Please , if you have nothing nice to say.regarding Yale coaches or
players.
Go away and blog some where else. This blog is full ,we do not need bloggers like you.
Truth teller wanna be.!
Just because BC was aggressive doesn't mean he will be. He didn't call any plays for BC he was just on the staff. Will spring practices be open to the public?

Yale's secondary was still very young last year. They played five guys who consisted of a junior and four sophomores. This will be a year to really gauge the defense as a whole. Both sides of the ball have improved each year. Offense just improved more drastically. Most people do not realize how bare the cupboard was left when reno got there. This staff has made Yale contenders again. Too many harsh words by anonymous posters. I wish Yale the best of luck!
Due to Ciotti's age look to see him in a role but not as a position coach. Larry is an unbelievable asset to the program. Reno is a good person but due to has lack of public sharing for information about the program, he has been unrightfully judged by people who do not know him and are not part of the program. Let the man coach. If they are consistently below .500, then he should go. The record in years 3-5 are the best gauge of him as a coach. Until then Go Elis!
Also look to see Abu Daremy do a pg year at Choate before entering yale. He will be the best player in the NEPSAC by far.
Spring session will run from March 25-April 18. Practices are open.
Yale secondary is slow recievers ran by them all year especially last pass at Harvard. Adjustments in defense have to be made in order to make up for lack of speed. Otherwise I agree one more year of experience should help.
Yale cannot be good on defense because of it's style of offense. Uptempo offense means the defense will be on the field a lot, never be rested and more will go wrong.
5:30 Makes a good point with the exception the defense can be good hopefully frosh class will add depth.
Yale Follower:
Harvard runs an uptempo offense. Their defense seems to do just fine.
Yale ran 150 more plays then H this season. That's what I'll call uptempo! Conlin has them playing fast.
The defense need not be on the field long if they can cause some three-and-outs! That seems to be more of a problem than the offense.
Good homework 12:39 one more year experience should be faster.I like the oline coming back this year and freshmen dline prospects.
Did anyone see the article that was on Locker Report about Charles Cook? The Combine Report: 2015 NFL Regional Combine (Baltimore) - Defense: Yale 's Cook "Pretty much the complete package" Does anyone know any more information about him? Didn't know he was interested in playing at the next level?
Does anyone know where to find Harvard Yale hoops (for a likely Ivy title and Yale's first trip to the NCAA tourney since 1962!!) on TV tonight?
Chris?
In New York it is on SNY.
Looks like you'll need to watch that game (b-ball) again next weekend, thanks to tonight's (Saturday) loss @ Dartmouth.
All those surprised, raise your hands.
Didn't think so.
Way to support the bball team. Your a clown
9:36 you are the worst of what varsity athletics brings forward -a very sick human being. How sad.
Yale basketball has no kids on steroids. At least the coaches don't look the other way when kids are on PED's.
Chris, they announced Stevens as DL coach.Whats the holdup, with McGowan.?
Congrats to Yale Basketball,Coach Jones, needs to do a better job coaching. That Dartmouth loss.Is on the coach.
Cheers Jon Harris
Can't stand the wait. What's the date of the Spring game? Hope it's the same as it's been-April 25, the Saturday after the Boston Marathon..
April 18
Just want to thank the yale basketball team for a great year, but as always harvard gets the calls, Im 67 i will never see a yale basketball;title The sr deserved better what a shame, Jones should have called a time out 7 sec left set up a play and this is the coach of the year in the league? Jon harris what do you think ray you too. walt yale bluewalt
Walt,
Maybe the football team will come through with a victory over Harvard this year!
Walt you said it.Coach gets the loss.Should have regrouped, take a breath.draw a plan.Good game by the boys, bad game by JONES.
Yes I am ready for the Yale football team to lead the way to VICTORYS.
Cheers Jon Harris
Maybe just maybe the Yale ice hockey team will get their first. Tonight - 4th win over Hvd this year
They did it.!!2-0 Let's go Bulldogs.Rubber match tommorrow.
Cheers Jon Harris
They got a good shot at the buzzer which didn't fall, probably a much better scoring opportunity than if they called timeout. This was always Bob Knight's way, have the players prepared and don't call timeout because it gives the defense a chance to get set. The layup just didn't fall and the tip was no good, I don't think you lay that on the coach.
So ends one of the most disappointing weekends in Yale sports. Let's turn a page quickly.
THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR IS STEVEN VASHEL. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO HIS DUTIES AS COACH OF THE DEFENSIVE BACKS.
ALSO, SEAN MCGOWAN IS THE COACH OF THE LINEBACKERS!
What happend to Sean McGowan.?
He get a better deal.?
HE IS,ACCORDING TO MY INFO, THE COACH OF THE LINEBACKERS!
Do you think McGowan will try to bring in recruits that he had interest in while he was at BC?.... He has a great eye for talent!
Hope there's a lot of coverage of spring football.
I'm confused, why would you come to Yale to coach linebackers when you were just at BC? He must be the DC. He's 10 times more qualified then Steve Vassel.
If all has been decided, why hasn't it been announced?
Guys is paul rice still the outside LB coach?
Sounds like more scandal from Reno.
Yale Follower:
McGowan was fired from BC. His replacement at BC was hired well before McGowan was hired at Yale. Still a good coach but did not choose to come to Yale over staying at BC, and it's Vashel not Vassel. The fact you don't know his name proves you can't give an appropriate opinion on his defensive coaching ability. Vashel has coached quality Db's at Maine including an NFL draft pick. The secondary has been young and this year will be a good year to judge his ability at Yale.
Excited to see what will go on during spring ball! Go Elis!
CHRIS CAN YOU FIND OUT WHAT SEM KROON ROLL WILL BE NEXT YEAR OR WILL HE NOT PLAY THANKS.
Chris where will the real position battles be this spring? How many guys are sitting out to recuperate from injuries? Are there any underclassmen that will not be returning? I'm excited about seeing continued improvement on both sides of the ball but especially the defense.
Coaching an NFL player does not make you a good coach. That's a Stupid statement.
What happened to Flanders did he retire from coaching?
9:16 Look whose calling a kettle black.Better to remain silent. Then to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
