Johnson waived
A few minutes before the Yale spring game Eric Johnson was holding court with the media. Asked about his role this season with the New Orleans Saints, the all-time leading receiver in Yale history could only laugh as he said "well, they just traded for Shockey."
While Johnson jumped the gun on the trade which sent Jeremy Shockey from the New York Giants to the Saints, the move finally became official earlier this week. The acquisition of the All-Pro tight end also spelled the end of Johnson's short tenure with the Saints as he was cut by New Orleans on Friday.
Johnson played 14 games for New Orleans in 2007 and had 48 catches for 378 yards and 2 touchdowns. His best game came in the season opener against Indianapolis with 57 yards on eight catches. A seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers, Johnson caught 192 passes in four seasons (82 coming in the 2004 season). Johnson also missed the 2003 and 2005 seasons because of injuries.
