FOUR-DOWN FRIDAY:Colgate at Yale

Here is a look at four things to keep an eye on when Yale hosts Colgate Saturday.

BOUNCE BACK: Yale let one slip away last week. Tony Reno called the 38-31 loss to Dartmouth the toughest in his three seasons. Last year the Bulldogs loss to Dartmouth started a downward spiral, as they dropped three straight and five of their final seven. A win Saturday would be critical, getting Yale back on track heading into its Ivy League stretch.

ESTABLISH THE RUN GAME: The Bulldogs showed they need their run game to be successful. They can’t rely on Morgan Roberts and the passing game to carry the offense. Expect another big game from Tyler Varga. He rushed 39 times for 236 yards and a touchdown in a season-opening win at Colgate last season.

ANOTHER DUAL THREAT: Last week, Yale didn’t have much of an answer for Dartmouth’s slippery quarterback Dalyn Williams. The versatile Williams beat the Bulldogs with his arm last week. This week Yale faces another dual threat in Jake Melville, who leads the Raiders in passing and rushing. Melville may not be as talented as Williams, but Yale still needs to find a way to keep him in the pocket.

TALL ORDER: Yale’s passing defense has struggled. The Bulldogs rank No. 107 out of 121 FCS teams, allowing 257.5 passing ypg. Colgate has good size on the outside and a 6-foot-6 tight end in John Quazza, the Raiders leading receiver. This could pose as a tough matchup for Yale’s secondary.
