Varga makes Colts roster; Yale-UConn matchup not in cards
Tyler Varga has made the Indianapolis Colts 53-man roster.
The former Yale record-breaking RB had 18 carries for 69 yards and a TD in his four preseason games for the Colts. He also had five receptions for 36 yards, made a tackle on special teams and had a pair of kickoff returns.
Varga is listed as the No. 4 RB on the Colts depth chart.
And it doesn't look like Yale and UConn will be meeting any time soon.
According to Register columnist Chip Malafronte, "UConn agreed to discuss the possibility, but took a pass on Yale’s proposal: a two-year contract, one game at Rentschler Field; one at the Yale Bowl."

If Uconn doesn't want two games with one at the Yale Bowl then let's settle for one game in Hartford. 2018 will mark the 20th anniversary of the last game of this historic series. That should provide for enough historic significance to get the NCAA waiver that UConn desires so the game counts for bowl eligibility.

Can anyone give us any input on how the Brown scrimmage went?
1:15 must have never gone to a Yale-UConn game , or else he would know that it was the best attended game of the year almost every year other than the Harvard game. In fact, 1:15 sounds like a Harvard fan who should stick to his Harvard message boards.

It was Yale 30, Brown 24, but little can be read into that, as only 7 starters for Yale played.It will be interesting to see what the coaches thought. As for Yale-UConn, those days are gone forever (and should be). Once a terrific rivalry, when the Ivy League and Yale went 1AA and UConn went big time, it was over for good.
As I recall, the last game was UConn 60 something and Yale 20 something. Who wants more of that?
That 1998 Uconn team was very good. They might even be better than this year's UCONN team. The 1998 team won their conference and a playoff game, before falling to a very good Georgia Southern team. Fact is Yale is far more competive with UCONN today then they were in 1998. Yale was ranked higher than UCONN last year according to the Sagarin rankings. Furthermore, Yale beat Army last year and UCONN lost to Army. Let's play the games and find out whose better.
How can a school with vastly stronger academic standards and no athletic scholarships compete with a state university in Division 1 that is most known for athletics and with every player on full football scholarship? I know, our basketball team did it, but once in, what, forty years? Last year was last year.
Because athletic scholarships don't matter when most of the team is on generous financial aid packages. And wasn't last years victory over UCONN in basketball worth the wait? If Tom Beckett listened to the naysayers he would have never scheduled that game, which was the biggest Yale basketball victory in 40 years.
Joe the genius needs to figure out a gameplan on offense this season. You wont have an NFL back every year at this level. Time to do some coaching and less screaming at kids on the field because your clueless.

The 1987 Yale victory over Uconn was probably the best game of the entire 50 year series. When watching the game film using the link below you can see how much this game meant to the players and the fans. It's a rivalry that needs to be renewed.

Congratulations to a wonderful young man and the success that he clearly deserves.

Best we can do is wait for Mr. Hunn to update us through the coaching staff. Hope that comes soon. Bulldog fans are chomping at the bit for some info!! It is going to be a LONG 2 weeks until opening day!
Who were the seven starters who played against Brown? Who was the number two QB? Did any of the RBs look good? Did ANYONE look good? What about injuries? Any starters projected to miss the opener? Who? The faithful are starved for something more than generalities.

Reno must be more hands off on the defense this season. They look a lot better, have some interesting coverage's and blitzes from what I've seen. Much better then the Reno defenses of the past where the defensive backs just back peddle and let receivers catch every ball in front of them and behind them.
I can't let this one go: financial aid is simply not the same as a full scholarship. Often typically included debt, is misunderstood by patents and comes with all kinds of caveats, delays and red tape. There's a reason that the Utah States of the world field better teams than the Ivies.
And keep then news coming on Varga - we pare proud that he's going to play on Sundays and happy for the attention it brings eh program.
We will always be proud of Varga and will always support his success. It is time to move on though, to Rich and co.

Are you an only child? Life is not a zero sum game. Keep us posted on both TV and current doings at the Bowl. Most of us can handle both and look forward to doing so.
The first 35 years of the Yale- Uconn football series was completely dominated by Yale. Did Yale ever say to to Uconn we're too good to play you? If they had it would have deprived generations of Uconn atheles and fans of their only chance to play football before 40k plus every year. Now the shoe is on the other foot and Yale comes to Uconn to ask for a small two game series so they can have the experience of playing a major FBS program, and they are shown the door. If Uconn can't exhibit a generous spirit to Yale after a 50 year shared history of competition between the two schools, then I don't think they have the moral high ground to complain when they get unfairly shafted for membership by by the ACC and Big 10. What goes around comes around.
