Spring practice got underway for Yale last week. The Bulldogs’ potential top playmaker for the upcoming season, however, won’t be playing.
No, he’s not hurt. In fact, he’s never caught a pass for the Bulldogs or even left a single cleat mark on the Yale Bowl field.
His name is Bo Hines.
Spring practice is upon us. There are many things that will need to be figured out for our success next season. Here is the reality. Of the top 20 defensive performers on the team 3 of them were seniors. Only 2 of these were starters. So, as championship teams are, we are going to have to be carried by our defense. If we want to compete for an Ivy League title again next year, our defense (as 2:33 in the previous posts said) is going to have to step a level up. We are going to have to have a pass rush that truly threatens passers weekly, we are going to have to stop the run amongst the best in the Ivy’s, and our DB’s are going to have to be as good a corps as there is in the Ivy’s also. This is what is basically expected of this group based on their age and their lineage. These are guys have excelled as underclassmen for the last 2 years, this is their year to be great.
ReplyDeleteOffensively we had an amazing year last year with guys who have been around for a while and a few that needed to step up. We are first going to have to get much more as a unit from our offensive line. While they did well enough as the most important unit on the offense to give us a high powered offense that scored early and often we have lost a major amount of fire power from last year. Not counting Roberts (who is a huge plus in returning) we have lost the top 4 of our highest point scorers on our team (Varga, Randall, Wallace, & Cassetta). Offensively we are going to have to have breakout years by numerous different players to get close to the production we got last year, and even that may be an unfair expectation.
Losing 2 of 5 starters on the O-line we are going to really need them to be a force. They’re going to have to take the brunt of the pressure to begin with until we can establish our running and passing game with new competitors. While Rich will be no Varga he is going to have to have a big senior year for us to be good. It will be interesting to see the Hines kid in action and what he can offer in conjunction with that crop of great freshman WR’s that will now be sophs to our passing game. And of course we cannot forget about Morgan Roberts. The one who everybody doubted last year and he had a tremendous year. Now it is his time to lead this team from the front. Now there will be an expectation for him to be our “go to” guy. He cannot do it alone, no one can; and he did also lose the threats of Varga, Randall, and Wallace personally. None the less, he is our QB the guy who gets the most credit and the guy who gets the most blame in this game and he is our best returning starter on the offense and a senior. We are going to have to lean on him to take us to the promise land this season. In Morgan we trust. Makes for a very interesting spring…and summer. Looking forward to watching the chips fall.

Yet when a moron makes a comment like kids are “milking the system” when they had off-season surgery and cannot participate in spring practice is just an example of the ignorant pretentious Momo’s who appear on this blog from time to time.
