Chris: Hope you call out Reno this week. Terrible playcalling, one drive after another aborted by ill-timed and ill-advised passes, often into double coverage. Why waste so many plays and leave so many points off the board? he defense was great, but they can't beat Princeton, let alone Harvard, by themselves.Bob Semple, NY Times.

Calm down, Bob. It was one of those games. A win is a win. Sometimes the D and special teams have to win for you, too.

They still had almost 600 yards of offense. Play calling always evolves.

If they have trouble in the red zone like they did today next week, THEN I'll start to worry.

when you have Varga and Rich WHY Pass on 3rd and 4 or 2 or 1 especially when the running game was going so well ?!!
can anyone help me with this? the same type of call that kept us out of the Dartmouth game!

Because you must have both parts of game to keep defenses honest and keep competitive, a balanced offense is reason Yale has done so well overall this year

I agree, 11:17, BUT.... The issue (at least to me) is looking 30 yards downfield into double coverage... Extremely low-percentage passes that are clearly being anticipated. I don't have a problem going up top once you have sucked the pass defense in, but today's calls did not seem to reflect the coverages Columbia were in. I love the balance, but I don't want to throw long a bunch of times into double coverage.

I agree with all 7:48, 11:17 and 11:35 but there is a time and place. when your on the 40 Yrd line its 3rd and 1 or even 3 that's NOT the time or the place to pass. With the strong running game we have in those kind of situations you have to run the ball get the 1st down move on.

Looks like Reno will crumble down the stretch. Kids look worn out. Sloppy play, poor coaching.

9:52 you're sad. You have these comments on robo. Were you there? It was pouring rain. The wind was erratic. The conditions were awful. We won. You are pathetic.

wait until Coach Reno faces Harvard Defense - he will crumble and Harvard will win their 2nd straight Ivy title and will go Undefeated!!!

-Harvard might win 10:56 - certainly they will be favored, they are very strong - but that's not a "given." And even if they do that does not mean Reno has "crumbled." Does that mean every coach who has lost to Harvard has "crumbled"? You are an idiot.

Ah ha! We know now 10:56 is a Harvard man! In fact, he sounds just like "Cleat", the Harvard football propagandist who writes for Harvard Magazine and for the Harvard football programs.

well it was not a good came to watch? too many long throws down the field. we have a strong running game use it . Like to see more throws to our running backs coming out of the back field also may be amiddle screen. Some thing different to throw off the D. Any thoughts on this.

  15. good lord, people, 600 yards of offense and the sky is falling because we "only" scored 25 points in lousy weather? yes, please, more screens to RBs, then we can re-start last year's whinging about bubble screens all over again.

if at the start of the year someone told you that at this point we would be 6-1, with the top offense in I-AA and balance between passing and running games, I think we all would think that person was insane. let's stop chipping away at the coaching, thus far they've shown they know what they're doing a hell of a lot more than the quibblers and self-appointed coaching experts here.

coaches and players, keep on keeping on, and good luck this week and the rest of the way.

Yale fell to #6 in total offense after last week's performance. Not #1 anymore.

if we see play calling on both sides of the ball like in the Dartmouth game and Columbia game you will see the next 3 games ending with a loss.

Let's see....as I recall, Harvard was TIED with Columbia 0-0 at the half. Harvard had a goose egg for an entire half against Columbia, so get that weak sauce out of here....

6:54 It will fall a lot more in the next 3 weeks. Brown and Princeton will slow down the offensive production. Yale will get most of their yards in the 4th Q again Harvard when they play the seniors only.

Yale remains #1 in total offense in the FCS with 599.6 yards per game. Look at the website. Why do you let these people bait you?

  22. Anonymous11:35 AM

Yale does have two of the top players in the Ivy league at WR and RB, it will be a shame when they play their last game against Harvard. Yale will have a much weaker team next year with those two guys gone.

Total offense means nothing. Wins in the Ivy League mean everything. Yale ends the year in 4th - because of losses to Princeton and Harvard in the last two games. Ends in 4th place if you take in consideration head to head. About where they were predicted to finish!

Did it occur to anyone else that the Yale coaching staff decided against humiliating Columbia? A question not a statement.

If they did, Dartmouth did too (27-7), and I am sure no one in Hanover complained about it.

The stats shouldn't even count towards FCS stats because its a separate league to begin with. Ivy is more D3 then it is FCS. Yale has had the fortune of playing nobody this year other then Dartmouth.

I dont think reno would be opposed to humiliating an opponent.

As of 11/2/2014, Yale's offense is still # 1 in all of Division 1, both FCS and FBS.

    http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/21

    http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs/current/team/21

Fordham # 5 in FCS only
Harvard # 16 in FCS only
Princeton # 35 in FCS only
Lehigh # 44 in FCS only
Bucknell # 49 in FCS only
Brown not in top 50 in FCS only

If Yale avoids turnovers, it should be able to run the table if the Yale defense can stop the opponent from scoring on just a couple of drives.

Predictions: the Brown game will be a smaller margin of victory than the Princeton game. Harvard will be a 3 or 3-1/2 point favorite based on home field advantage, but the outcome and margin of victory will be determined by turnovers.

your an idiot about football. Yale has only played one solid team in Dartmouth. You want to compare Yale's offense with FBS schools - SEC schools - you are an idiot.

Yale will have 3 losses at the end of the season. They will play a very good defense when they play Harvard and you will see what a defense will do to the Yale offense. Just look at what Princeton and Dartmouth did against their defense.

Wins matter more than stats! You will see the results of Yale's 3 losses at the end of the season and you can continue to talk about their offense. Harvard and possibly Dartmouth will talk about the Ivy League Championship!

Tsk, tsk, 12:09 PM. Looks like we hit your insecurity or inferiority nerve, or both. Yale is the team with the nation's top Total Offense, and there is nothing you can say that will change that fact.

If "possibly Dartmouth will talk about the Ivy League Championship," then it will most likely happen because Yale defeats Harvard, and in that case it is even more likely that there will be a three-way Y/D/H tie.

We all know that won't happen. Harvard will win out. 2nd, 3rd and 4th place will be a battle between Princeton, Dartmouth and Yale. In 3 weeks this will all be decided and Harvard will have another championship.

Maybe Yale will be better next year so Harvard won't blow them out. Harvard is a very young team, so they will be even better in years to come. They got 2 of the top 50 linemen in the country last year and they have over 15 commits for 2015. Getting the pick of the litter so to speak
