Here are some notes from Tuesday's media luncheon...
RYMISZEWSKI UPDATE
Yale CB Spencer Rymiszewski suffered a spinal cord concussion on a tackle late in the second quarter against Penn and will miss the remainder of the season.
He was released from the hospital on Sunday and is back in class.
He released the following statement on Monday.
“During Saturday's game against Penn, I suffered a spinal cord concussion that will have me sidelined for the rest of the season. I anticipate making a full recovery and getting back on the football field with my brothers.
I am grateful to the Yale medical staff and the entire Yale football community - to include the administrative staff, my coaches, my teammates, and all of the parents - for their care, kindness, love, and support over the last days.”
Freshman Jason Alessi is expected to start in place of Rymiszewski, while junior Michael Bernandez will serve as the backup.
OPLINGER MAKING IMPACT
Freshman Matt Oplinger has made the most of an expanded role. Oplinger caught a two-point conversion and returned a blocked field goal for 48 yards last week against Penn, earning Ivy League Rookie of the Week. He’s coming along at LB, too. He and Darius Manora have played well with both Will Vaughan and Andrew Larkin sidelined with injuries. Vaughan returned Saturday.
“He’s made a big step the last two games,” Tony Reno said. “Things slowed down for him and the performance and production has gone up.”
ROBERTS FORMER TEAMMATES
Morgan Roberts has quite the selection of wide receivers to choose from, highlighted by Deon Randall and Grant Wallace.
He played with some pretty good receivers at Clemson, too. Roberts was teammates with Sammy Watkins (now playing for the Buffalo Bills) and DeAndre Hopkins (now playing for the Houston Texans).
“I’ve never seen athletes like that before,” said Roberts about Watkins and Hopkins. “Come in, take a three-step drop and throw it as far as you can and no matter what, they’re going to catch it.”

Id love to see Bezney come back and play. He's a bigtime player. I'm tired of watching Friedline get pushed into the backfield on every play and waddle around behind the line.
Seriously 6:01? You must be Bezney's parent. Anyone else see what he's seeing???

Extremely nasty and utterly uncalled for - not to mention untrue.
Not sure who on the OL is "waddling" on a team that is FCS #1 in total offense, #1 in scoring offense, #3 in passing yards/game, and #5 in rushing yards/game....

I wouldn't expect to see Bezney this year. It is late enough in the season to consider sitting him in order to preserve the medical redshirt (in addition to getting healthy).
If Bezney can help you win the Harvard game and is healthy, he must play. No wait till next year.
Friedline had a rough day against Dartmouth. He lived in the backfield.
Look, no one is perfect and certainly not YOU! So if you have nothing good to say just keep quiet. You are the type that will keep complaining even when the Ivy championship rings are being delivered to New Haven.
WE need everyone healthy by the Harvard game. It may be our only chance to beat them for years to come. We have Randall and Varga healthy so far and our team is playing the best it has in years. But, it looks like Harvard could have the best defense we will face by far. And if Hempel is healthy they look to have the best offense we will face.
So, we need some more injuries by Harvard and some turnovers in that game. If not, we may have over a decade of continued losses to the Crimson.

7:40 Don't be so sure that the teams success is going to decrease next year or year after.
It's very common when a team has a great year that people focus on all the talent that is graduating and not on the talent coming back.
Varga and Randall are certainly two of the best players to ever play for Yale, however the effects of having a "young" team have only just begun to be realized. I predict even more success over the coming years!!!!

Who is in the pipeline that is half the athlete or the talent as Varga?? Possible NFL prospect. Don't kid yourself, look at our JV team.
And Randall is the #1 receiver in Yale history - our other best receiver is a senior. He is also the captain and has lead the team for two straight years.
Our younger receivers and RBs that Reno recruited are not that caliber of athletes. We do have some better OL that in the past, but no RB in history of Yale is as good as Varga.
He will be missed greatly next season, and the same for Randall.
You are foolish to think we have replacements for those guys. We will have average players in those positions, not legendary ones like we have this season.
Next year will be a rebuilding season again.
I disagree with 11:53 salter and four frosh recievers will pick up the slack defense will be better next year with more experience.
Lets make this perfectly clear. Yale has no replacement for Tyler Varga.

four frosh receivers will not replace Randall & Varga is one of the best RB in the Ivies ever. The freshman have proved nothing, yet Varga has proved he is one of the best ever, and Randall just broke the all times receptions for Yale - again the best ever.
I agree the defense could get better but the offense will not be as good for many years to come. Can't replace the two best players Yale has possibly ever had play together.
Plus Yale has not played a good defense this season yet. Columbia is not the test. Princeton will be our test - Harvard set their all times yards record again them.
The Harvard team has the best defense by far we will play. It will be Randall and Varga's last game. It will be interesting!
But, our offense next year will be much weaker.
What's your problem? Why don't you get a life. Football is a team game and complete teams win, period. Varga and Randall are great players on a great offense, it's a team thing. So is Morgan Roberts and Grant Wallace and the entire O-line. Foolish people make foolish comments. Next year the new crop will replace the seniors and where they may lack others will pick up the slack and the team will march on!
They do not have another Varga or Randall on the roster just facts. Its a team game but individual talent isn't always replaceable.

games.roberts is horrible.
Whatever Varga is a back that comes around every 2 0r 3 decades.
Randall is a one hell'va leader and player.
Reno has a great foundation laid for the future and the depth is
growing every year.
You are correct that Yale won't have Varga, Randall,Wallace,Cook,
Chism, Carbery and Cazetta and Vaughn etc..
But those men can say they were the group that kick started this Yale Football program to being on top YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT...
