Chris,
ReplyDeleteThankx for the update!
Chris ,thank you for putting that together.
ReplyDeleteJon Harris
WOW these kids are great.
ReplyDeleteNice list. You can never have enough quarterbacks. Still, a few 300 pound linemen would certainly help too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris.
We sure need linebackers who can tackle.
ReplyDeleteGood news on the recruiting front. Coach Reno has shown he can find talent and convince them to come to Yale. But any loyal Bulldog fan must admit after following the team for two years under Reno that we are being out coached. The Offensive Coordinator must go. Morris' work with the QB's on the option read was without result--replaying the games that were on TV this year, its obvious that we haven't mastered this fundamental element of our offense. If the QB cant read the end, we cant run this offense. Yale had an offensive line that was considered in preseason write ups and in commentary by opposing coaches throughout the season as at or near the top of the Ivy League. They dominated the first three games of the season. But as the season wore on and Ivy League defensive coaches capitalized on how predictable the Yale offense was, we failed to adjust. Morris was too impatient. And he abandoned the run much too early in close games. With our young, undersized defense, running the ball on second and two in order to secure a first down and keep the D off the field may not be as sexy as a go route to a wide receiver, but given our QB problems, it was the better option. And we had depth at RB this year -look at Keys's stats in the last three games when he got some carries. Morris had at least six receivers who could make possession catches but if you look at the stats the last two games, we see that Deon Randle got more action than the others combined. Randle is certainly the team MVP. But Yale was much too predictable. The result was a great catch or run by Deon that was still short of the first down yardage necessary. And then there was the clock management. How many times did we see the play clock run down to 5 seconds or less on our "hurry up" offense. We squandered any advantage of the no huddle. I could go on but any serious Yale football fan knows that we have a somebody else calling the plays next year or we will be in the middle of the pack yet again. The Ivy League rules are set up for relative parity in talent. It's a coach's league. Who can scheme better and motivate his players to perform on Saturday? Coach Reno has brought the team around, but with Morris as OC, it's hard to see an Ivy League crown any time soon.
ReplyDeleteMost interested in:
ReplyDeleteJon Bezney, OL, 6-5, 275 Cincinnati, Ohio
Reasons:
* He had lots of 1-A offers.
* Quality OL candidates are the building block for success. It's been an area where Yale has lagged a bit behind the top IL schools in recent times (although Reno seems to be making strides). I'm hoping this year's recruiting class focuses on OL and DL, to complement the skill players already on campus.
Nice too when the OLs and DLs have some height so they can add weight without having it hang over their belts.
ReplyDelete7:34 Comments are a classic understatement. chance of coach Reno replacing Morris are zero. Offensive Line did not perform well against either Dartmouth,Princeton or Harvard. Defensive line lacked penetration and linebackers missed so many tackles it was not funny. Recruiting needs to focus on both lines especially defense, linebackers and quarterbacks. so what else is new.
ReplyDeleteRandall is actually a fifth year senior next year and Coty could have another year.
ReplyDeleteJust read in the Columbia Spectator that they have had a lot of trouble getting recruits to commit because of negative blogs by their own alumni, particularly regarding the coaching staff. There is little any of us can do to help Yale football except joining and supporting the Yale Football Association and backing the program, but let us do no harm!
ReplyDeleteguys we have to get away from saying bad things about the yale football programe. if this keeps up were going to lose a lot of good recruits.
ReplyDelete7:12 you are right please say what is good about the program.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of positivity, but anonymous comments on a blog don't affect anybody with a brain... and we like players to have some brains.
ReplyDeleteColumbia's problems in recruiting are: (a) no championships since 1957; and 9b) the current coach throwing the team under the bus:
“When I can get it to when it just comes down to the football part of it and doesn’t come down to the toughness part of it, and the work ethic part of it, and the character part of it, and all the things that you have to have to create a program—then we’re making progress.” He made that statement in the student newspaper. Say what you want about Reno -- he's never said anything like that about his team.
Slight correction: Columbia's last Ivy championship was in 1961, when they were tied with Harvard.
ReplyDeleteKudos to Chris for assemblying information on our recruits.
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted to see the Ugwu kid on the list. He's played at a HS in my area (suburban Houston) that has one of the better football programs in Texas. He could play early for us at OLB, teaming up with his fellow Igbo man, Victor Egu.

ReplyDeleteWho do you think will be the most productive as a Freshman?
ReplyDeleteWe understand if you feel incapable of answering 8:25's query. I think he/she misses you and your news. How dare you take time off at Christmas. Your fan base comes first. Remember that.
ReplyDeleteI believe one of the Freshmen on defense will have the biggest impact.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is having an enjoyable holiday season.
ReplyDeleteIt's really tough to say who will be most productive as a freshmen. But I think those on the defensive side will have the most opportunities. Bezney is the highest rated recruit so far.
Chris:
ReplyDeletePlease find out whether our glorious baton twirler will be returning next fall, and, if not, whether we are recruiting her successor. I'm not kidding. She was a joy to behold, sometimes the best thing that was happening on the field.
Chibuzor Ugwu said he decommited from Yale is now going to Princeton. See ya
ReplyDeleteRay walt and the boys want to know were the beef.Is he recruiting any big guys? boy we need them both sids of the ball.
ReplyDeleteCHUNN,
ReplyDeleteTHANKX FOR THE UPDATES. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING!
With 22 out of 30 slots filled, we have four kids over 250 lbs. I think we need more beef.
ReplyDeleteNo size on the defensive line. Hopefully we will get some big defensive lineman who have some speed. Our current defensive line is way undersized and pitifully slow.
ReplyDeleteHey guys great job. Happy new Year.
ReplyDeleteCheers Jon Harris
(@12:00pm) Lets talk recruiting... When you recruit players you recruit players who have the POTENTIAL to contribute to the program and players who will have an immediate impact. A big part of the college transition i a the transition in the weight room. Yale Strength/Conditioning is top of the line so the Coaches know what size player they want bc they can add the weight that they want and know that it will not be fat. 8/10 times you recruit a player in the 250 and up range they are carrying the wrong kind of wait. I say you sit back and watch as this class shocks us all.
ReplyDeleteThank you, 11:50. Believe me, I'll be delighted to be shocked, but what is the basis for suggesting that we're leaders in strength and conditioning? Last time I looked our foes were into it as well, and they no doubt think they're state of the art as well. I agree; if you're 300lbs and 5' 10'' you may be carrying the wrong kind of wait, but I'm happy to wieight and see.
ReplyDelete11:50 has some very good points. While other Ivy League teams may have comparable facilities, none has better, and we can be sure no promising recruit will be attracted to another Ivy school on the basis of superior weight rooms or strength
ReplyDeletecoaches. Anyone who has seen Yale's would agree. As I have said before, Ivy championship teams are those with senior stars and leadership.
Chris, Chris, where art thou? Any news about the divine baton twirler? It's grim out there, and your readers need cheering up. Thanks
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous 9:55- As a current sophomore in the YPMB, our baton twirler will most certainly be returning to perform next year.
ReplyDeleteThank you, 7:10. She is magnificent.
ReplyDeleteHuge Andrew Johnson fan. The kid can ball. High football IQ with 4.5 speed and the ability to read the DE and make kids look silly.
ReplyDeleteNoah Yates, 6' 5", 197 lbs. WR/FS
ReplyDeletePoint Pleasant Beach, N.J.
guys just thinking. we have eight spots left were not going to win many games with 245lb def linemen we need help . anyone know any big guys in prison ?
ReplyDeleteMake that 7 if the number's 30 and you count Yates.Actually I was thinking we ask him to put on 100 lbs between now and Labor Day and then line him up at OT.
ReplyDeleteJake DeHart, 5' 10", 167 lbs. 4.41, W/R/RB/CB, Cathedral Prep, Erie, PA.
ReplyDeleteWe're down to six. Bring on the beasts.
ReplyDeleteWE have the beasts these kids have a lot of size, to beef them up.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed by the speed and height of these pups.Whats great about pups they get bigger.teeth get sharper.
hey Chunn, can you update the board please.
ReplyDeleteThank You Jon Harris
Guys .Are we being outrecruit by columbia for lineman? it sure looks like it. we have 6 spots left I hope there all lineman. walt yale blue
ReplyDeleteHey Walt,I was getting spoiled for
ReplyDeletea while there. I thought they would have filled the 30 slots plus. I know they have kids coming in, the next few weeks.
By the way say hello to Stanley for me. Sincerely Jon Harris
looks like a below average recruiting class compared to princeton and columbia.
ReplyDelete4:02 how do you come to that.?
ReplyDeleteAccording to recruiting site 247
Yale is the #1 ranked recruiting class of the Ivy League.
Facts Jack,Facts
Great news, 4:40. Where did you find that on 247?
ReplyDeletewere the beef ? princeton recruite 6-6 320lb lineman can be used as a tightend also. are there any big guys that want to come to yale out there please come free food at louie,s lunch.walt yale blue.sventyseven
ReplyDeleteYale football commits for 2014 on google.
ReplyDeleteBring up status of recruiting class
Thats a fact Jack...
Actually Barton Simmons
Put in 247 sports on the site
ReplyDeletesorry my information on princeton recruit was wrong.walt yale blue
ReplyDeleteI am always looking for reasons to be bullish about our football prospects, but, unless I'm missing something, it's a bit misleading to say we're the #1 recruiting class in the league without mentioning that this is based on eight recruits. Likewise, Harvard is ranked third with four recruits listed.
ReplyDeleteCome on, it's been to quiet on the commitment news. Some great news pleaseeeee.!!!
ReplyDeleteRespectfully Jon Harris
https://twitter.com/fly_goose11
ReplyDeleteMike Siragusa WR
Great is there any confirmation to this.?
ReplyDeletechunn or Ray could you shed some light on this.
Thank You Jon Harris
Princeton seems to be way ahead of all other teams in quality recruiting. Yale seems to be in the middle at best.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 5:16; where are the defensive lineman? Teams ran through us at will last year. If there is no further recruits will someone move from the offensive line?
ReplyDeleteWe have more players than you think.Moesta,Rushin,Gerson,Schmittgens,Kreistberg,Mchugh and some kids who were hurt.Bedard and Blohm should be back.. I am sure if need be grab some of the O line guys..
ReplyDeleteTalk to me in 2to 3 years about being out recruited by Pton.
I don't think we are...
I was referring to defensive tackles/noseguards only one of whom weigh more than 255 lbs. What ever happened to Avery Lewis?
ReplyDeleteJeho Chang was a defensive lineman until this past season at his high school.
ReplyDeleteAvery Lewis had surgery on a knee this past fall. Hopefully, he will be ready in the spring (2014).
I have a proposal that addresses our perceived deficit in gigantic interior linemen of the defensive persuasion. As we know, our head coach is extremely fit. Like a good officer, he leads by example. However, Coach Reno and the current members of his staff are basically medium/large sized people.
ReplyDeleteI suggest that Coach Reno hire a ginormous, humungous assistant so that recruits with similar dimensions will feel more welcome.
basic 3-4 cb rymiszewski and freshman hyden carlson. de egu and gerson. dt tyler and bedard ng kreitzberg and rushin. de moesta and freshman earl chism.cb rymiszewski andfreshman hyden carson.cb harris and LaTesta. ss chanpion and freshman jason alessi. fs oluokum and ries. Lb larkin and the freshman that got hurt last year remick kawawaki good be a nice player for us if he come back. mlb vaughan andfreshman matt oplinger and cook and sykes thats it just having some fun . walt yale blue.
ReplyDeleteabove basic 4-3 not 3-4 .
ReplyDeleteYoung men, can put on 10 to 20 Lbs. of muscle. In the off season,i'm looking forward to the spring game already.
ReplyDeleteJon harris
Hey Chunn, Do have this young man.
ReplyDeleteJordan Schlueter 6' 2" 185lbs. S
from Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale,Az.
Jon Harris
Jon,
ReplyDeleteI have not been able to confirm Jordan.
Thank You, Chunn I got that from
ReplyDeleteBarton Simmons site 247 sports.
Keep'em coming Chunn
Jon Harris
If the freshmen class is as good as some of you think i suspect there will be more than one freshmen in the defensive two deep especially at linebacker and defensive line.
ReplyDeletejust to let you know we have one defensive lineman 245lb thats not going to do it .also reno could move JEHO CHANG 275lb to the defensive line.I thing he played there last year.
ReplyDeleteClearly we are in need of an imaginative defensive scheme. I propose a 1-2-8, consisting of a NG, two LBs, and eight DBs (we've got plenty of them).
ReplyDeleteWhy are you people so frantic.?
ReplyDeleteBreath let everything play out.you have a long off season to prepare. The staff will do the job that needs to be done.
Let's talk last Saturday of April OK.. sheez
Based on watching J V games we do not have anybody who will make an impact on the defense next year. We better hope their is a change in position or some help from the freshmen class. Overall defensive line is small and slow.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the cupboard is better than half full.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the season already.I gotta get a life..
Cheers Jon Harris
Sorry to disagree with some of you but this class is not going to do it. Just compare video of other Ivy school recruits with ours.
ReplyDeleteOhh yah or Ohh noooo what to do.
ReplyDeleteWe just as well just give up because evryone else looks sooo GREATTTT....
At least have the balls to wait before you make a stupid comment like you have done...
Re weakness at DL:
ReplyDeleteCopache Tyler, DT, 6-3, 280, started all ten games last season, was freshman MVP.
Ben Bedard another freshman DL, 6-4, 265, did not play due to injury. As team captain his senior year, had 60 tackles, 14 TFLs and 5 sacks… Second-team all-state, second consecutive first-team all-league, Mid-Michigan Dream Team, and Rival’s Michigan top 100 his senior year.
It's reassuring to know that we will have one excellent and one potentially excellent (if they both stay healthy) DL in next year's soph class. Nevertheless, it is my fervent hope that we fill our last two slots (assuming we've got thirty) with a pair of gentlemen whose aggregate height and weight approach thirteen feet and exceed 560 pounds, respectively.
ReplyDeleteFor what is worth i agree with comments regarding concern about defense and waiting to see what happens at the end of april. I think it will be far more interesting to see what develops at quarterback.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most, but the one thing that this team has that most has not .Is the speed of these athletes. They are quick and the potential of them gaining weight. It will happen.
ReplyDeleteJon Harris
Two more openings; hope the staff can pull a pair of elephants out of a hat.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 2:28. Quarterback is the most important issue. There has never been a successful football team without a talented, consistent quarterback.Frankly, I think much of the criticism of the defense has been overstated. To wit: Yale played an outstanding defensive game against Brown, a powerful offensive Ivy League team. Why couldn't they do that in all their games? Simple - they were young (18 year-olds vs 21 year-olds)and inexperienced. The talent was there and is still there.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that the concerns about our defense derive from the fact that we have seen all of our likely QB starters in action and sense that we may not have a very high scoring offense. Hence the need for an above average defense if we hope to improve upon than 5-5.
ReplyDeleteSo anymore out there.? Is 28 the #
ReplyDeleteYou can have more than 30 a year.
Yes as long as the total not exceed. 120 players in a 4 year period.
ReplyDelete1/29/13 Nice article in the Yale Daily News about Reno and his commits
ReplyDeleteChris:
ReplyDeleteWhat's the word? Is 28 the final number or are we still looking?
Very upset that Larry Allen Jr.from De LA Salle High Same as Vick Egu is going to Harvard. freaking Harvard....
ReplyDeleteJon Harris
I'm feeling chest pains,How the hell did they not get him..
ReplyDeleteHighest rated player, taken or committed to the Ivy's..
Very SAD Jon Harris
Still waiting to confirm this is complete list.
ReplyDeleteHey Chris, how many kids are waiting.?I hope we can get another 2 to 6....
ReplyDeleteThank you the chest pains are less.. Jon Harris
Sadly Jon Harris is going to need alot of aspirin this class does not fill the holes in the defensive line and quarterback.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't know were your getting your info.? But QB is 4to 6 DL is 4 to 5. That is'nt bad
ReplyDeleteLet's look at how Reno chose to use Egu. He keeps taking quick LBs and making them into DEs going against lineman who outweighs them by 40 lbs, putting them in a congested environment rather than allowing them to stand up and maximize their speed. He could have started at LB but he chose to play lesser recruited and lesser upside players in front of him. He never really figured out how to use him. Sometimes LB, sometimes DE, all the time a backup. Maybe that is why Larry Allen Jr went to Harvard. Maybe they presented a clear plan of how he would be used.
ReplyDeleteYou mean Larry Allen as a DE or Linebacker,no he would have been next to Freidline as a gaurd.
ReplyDeleteSpred that manure some place else.
You missed the point, 1:44. !:24 was not saying that Allen was going to be turned into a DE or LB. He was arguing that Egu was misused and might, therefore, warn Allen that he too might be misused.
ReplyDelete3:34 ok please tell how I missed the POINT..Thank you.?
ReplyDeleteReread my post, 4:46, if it's not beyond you. 3:34
ReplyDeleteWhy would I do that, it was boring the first time.
ReplyDelete6:21pm: You can't show anyone what they do not want to see. People on this blog expect it to be the Yale FB cheerleading blog. A place where we were always a last minute field goal from victory and every recruit is a 5 star, and Coach Reno is Bill Bellichik. My advice, stop trying it is useless.
ReplyDeleteYes 6:21 and 11:17, Don't go away mad, just GO AWAY..
ReplyDeleteNo one ever compared Reno To Bill Bellichek.EVER
2:10pm: Thanks for confirming my comments. You are not objective if you do not have an issue with some of Jon Harris's comments which attack and demean others who do not agree with his opinion.
ReplyDeleteFor those on this site who do not know the definition of objective it is as follows: not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts.
synonyms:impartial, unbiased, unprejudiced, nonpartisan, disinterested, neutral, uninvolved, even-handed, equitable, fair, fair-minded, just, open-minded, dispassionate, detached, neutral.
If you observed any of the last two seasons of Yale FB there are several clear areas of concern including player development and talent identification (Too many changes in the depth chart after the season begins) which means they always start off which the wrong people on the field which speaks to preference over letting the best players play. The preferred players have to fail before they are replaced and even then some are not. Clock management has been a serious issue as has been gametime coaching decisions.
This is what happens when you have a head coach and a staff with little or no experience at the position they currently hold.
Can all of them get better? For the sake of Yale FB I certainly hope so. Those are the facts.
Smalls minds play kill the messenger rather than debating their comments with facts. When presented with facts you Yale FB zealots attack the person making the comments.
All the objective people will leave you to your endless cheerleading and delusions.
TruthTeller
It's a new coching staff, yes they need experience. It'going on the
ReplyDelete3rd season. Can you be a little patient maybe give the staff a BREAK.
2-8 ,5-5 Can you admit and see a little improvement.I do,Don't blame me and other people, for not being HELL FIRE DAMBNATION.
You sound alot like truth what ever that guy is.
The fact is WE WANT Yale to be great again.I suppose like you,but you do not come off that way.
Yes I get attacked. but I will stand toe to toe with anybody on my thoughts ..
Tke care Jon Harris
