Victor Egu Looks like a HUGE catch for the Bulldogs. Look at the list of schools (below) who made this kid offers. He looks like the best player that's been recruited at any Ivy school so far this recruiting season. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/152001
ReplyDeleteSome other sites say the Tretter kid has committed to Purdue. Any late word on that?
ReplyDeleteJason Tretter has committed to Purdue.
ReplyDeleteYou can take Jason Tretter off the list he committed to Purdue today 1/26.
ReplyDeleteAny news on who the starting qb will be for next year? Is Roberts or Williams the favorite? Or is there a dark horse ie scott or Morales or someone else with some O- line help they could be very good if the QB situation gets resolved.
ReplyDeleteBOYS WE MAY BE VERY GOOD ON OFFENSE BUT THE WORRY IS DEFENSE THERE IS NOT ONE NAME ON THE LINE THATJUMPS OUT AT YOU KREITZBERG DAVIS FRANK ANDJEFF SCHMITTGENS PLAYED BUT NO DEPTH AFTER THEM WE HAVE TO FIND HELP AT DEFENSE END LB AND CB THE WILL BACK IS IN GOOD HANDS WITH BEAU PALIN AND EJ CONNWAY LETS HOPE THE THE NEW KIDS WILL HELP WALT YALE BLUE.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it.D got shoved around last year. And lack of height and speed in the secondary was obvious. Princeton in particular rolled up the left side like a steamroller.Oh well, lets see what turns up this year!,
DeleteThere is good depth at QB just not a lot of experience. It will be QB by committee until someone steps up . I think this year you will see a full run/pass wildcat package with Varga that will keep the defenses guessing.
ReplyDeleteQB's all young. One or more will have to step up. Up hill battle for the freshman and the transfer.
ReplyDeleteIt is my understanding that EJ Conway was one of the many young men who quit immediately after the season ended. Hope it is not true, but I have no reason to believe it is not.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is indeed true that EJ Conway left. Dylan Drake has another year of eligibility though. And they will definitely be playing a 3-4, so maybe that helps cover the team's most glaring weakness. I understand there has even been some talk of converting O-linemen
ReplyDeletewhy did Conway leave
ReplyDeleteNot much recruiting effort tdate at linebacker...is Yale stacked at this position going into next year?
ReplyDeleteAnyone know just how many have left the team and how many were starters?
ReplyDeleteIf not starters, were they discouraged only because of their lack of playing time?
Look, it's simple, just score more and you win.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about Dylan Drake? The website shows he's already played two years of JV and two years of varsity?
ReplyDeleteThis Texan will be interested to see how Reno utilizes Galen McAllister. McAllister was a star RB in Texas most competitive classification, 5A. He's small, but so was Robert Carr '05, who came out of Baytown R.E. Lee with lesser rushing numbers and wound up as Yale's all-time leading rusher. At a minimum, he ought to be an addition to our special teams, esp as a KR.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of KR, any news about Chris Smith's possible return to the team? He's the closest thing the Ivies have to Wes Welker.
Today's Yale Daily News in reporting on recruiting of Egu away from Cal Berkeley cites his coach to the effect that Egu will first go to prep school. Is there anything to this?
ReplyDeleteDoes Victor Egu have to matricuate at a prep school next year before he attends to Yale?
ReplyDeleteWhat were the changes in today's recruiting update?
ReplyDeleteJust added that Egu will attend prep school.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of RBs in the recruiting class? I thought we were good at that position. Varga will only be a Junior and Keys a Sophomore. I could see bringing in a big FB/HB to bolster the blocking but small backs, I don't get it. We already have some of those on the JV squad? Only thing I can see is maybe moving these kids to positions in the secondary but even then I don't like 5'7" corners and DBs!
ReplyDeleteReally...Why would Egu want to attend prep school when he has at least 8 offers from good/great schools? I think we may be getting our hopes up too high.
ReplyDeleteYes, many were listed at RBs when they committed. But I'm sure Reno will move some around.
ReplyDeleteanyone know if where still going after kids or are we done would like to see a few more lineman. walt yale blue . if egu has to go to prep school the will back should be charles cook i know he played strong safety but give him a chance to play there
ReplyDeleteTo 8:31 Um, a Yale degree? Some kids (and their parents) are smart enough to understand how few players actually make a career of this game. As far as "getting our hopes up" he is the best player to commit to an Ivy school - does that mean he will automatically be great? Of course not, but why not be hopeful that such a talent committed to the Bulldogs?
ReplyDeleteHarvard has a basketball player from Cal this year who is going to northfield Mount Hermon this year but is committed to them for 13/14
ReplyDeleteI agree with the huge advantage of a Yale degree for Egu. However, Yale's integrity as it relates to recommending that route is damaged when the Head Coach does not honor that commitment after the kid has went to the prep school as happened when Reno took over. For example, Matthew Porter. If Yale wants to continue to suggest this route the AD must force the Head Coach to honor these commitments understanding that the school has made the commitment to the young man and it will be honored regardless of any coaching changes or need changes. After all several of these guys such as the Porter case had D1 offers and rejected them for the opportunity to get a Yale degree.
ReplyDeleteStill doesn't make sense to recruit small running backs if you are going to use them elsewhere. Why not get some taller backs. We got killed in the secondary last year because of length!
ReplyDeleteNothing exciting in this group of players that will take Big Blue to the next level. I foresee another 2-3 years of sub .500 seasons. No game changers in this group. Multiple TE's with only size? No QB's that will impact the program. Why only one CT player? There must have been some great CT players who showed some interest. More CT players would mean more fannies in the seats and greater interest in Yale Football. Who is going to come out to watch a player from Calf., Wash. or GA? Yale has to realize that it is not Notre Dame. Build your core from CT/NY/NE and the fans will show up to support Big Blue. Otherwise, Yale will remain what it is, a Div. III program pretending to be a Div. 1AA program.
ReplyDeleteI've a different perspective on last year's seconary. We got killed because of a lack of speed in the secondary, not a lack of height.
ReplyDeleteJudging from this year's recruiting class, Reno is emphasizing speed, irrespective of size. By my count, nearly 40% of our recruits are Af-Am youngsters. That's ground breaking in New Haven.
Reno was an outstanding recruiter as an assistant at Yale and had the same reputation at Harvard! He also did an extraordinary job last year under the most difficult circumstances.I have a lot of faith in his selections. They also look sensational in those videos albeit against high school opposition.
ReplyDeleteYale in 2013 is not Connecticut's state team. UCONN is. A winning Ivy teaam, wherever drawn from, will lure alumni and local fans. Suspect Reno and staff know a lot more about recruiting than some of the commentators. Let's wait until the Fall to see the result of their efforts.
ReplyDeleteOn Reno as a recruiter: Using Rivals as an indicator, nine committed to Yale and nine to Harvard. Three of those committed to Harvard had Yale offers. Of Yale's nine, five had offers from Harvard: Freidline, Gaines, Oluokun, Rich, and Stallings.
ReplyDeleteReno knows how to recruit. A slew of kids from ga fla Texas and California. The absolute top 4 states for recruiting .We did get a big tight end ,we did get lineman,we did a solid QB plus a transfer qb , we did get speed .those kids from south play a different brand of football, just look at the film. Looks like a very solid class. Winning will fill the stands
ReplyDeleteThis is a solid class anyway you look at it. By itself it will not return Yale to upper division, but COMBINED with 3 years straight of good solid classes it will return Yale to consistent top 3 finishes. As to our secondary last year, height was a factor on occasion, as was speed. But there were MANY factors to include lack of a pass rush or blocked passes by down linemen, safeties in the box because we couldnt stop the run did not help our pass D. You give any Ivy QB all day and it will be a long day. I think depth was a huge factor this past year in the secondary and D in general.
ReplyDeleteEveryone in the Ivy League is slow. Not because they are slow but because when you combine football,over-training,lack of sleep, crazy academic load and the crap nutrition that is fed to the students something has to give. It first shows up in the legs! The kids in D1 are fast because they sleep till noon and have one class in the afternoon that requires no outside work or studying! I could be fast on that program.
ReplyDeleteRivals lists as of 2/4 Duncan Morfitt as a Yale commit. A 6-2,205 OLB, he is from Notre Dame Prep, Scottsdale, AZ. Had offers from Army and Navy. Do you have anything on this?
ReplyDeleteI found out more info on LB- Calvin Chandler on Scout.com. Had more offers from Air Force, Princeton, Dartmouth, Idaho and Wyoming. also, "preferred walk on" offers @ Stanford and U of W. Fast track guy and "hard hitter".
ReplyDeleteSolid Class. Things looking good for Yale
ReplyDeleteI count 30 commits including Egu. Since he is slated for prep school, should he be formally included in that number?
ReplyDeleteThere is also the matter of Roberts, the transfer QB from Clemson. Admissions can't act on his application until mid-April. Presuming they will affirmatively, will that bring us up to 30, whether or not there are left over slots from the preceding three years?
Yes, the number is at 30 if you take Egu off list because of prep and add Roberts. Figured it makes more sense to keep Egu on list on here. That way people see it and I added a note that he will attend prep school to clarify.
ReplyDeleteWalt yale blue.... I agree with you about the defense, REALLY need some help. There are some kids that didn't see playing time that I think will "step up" given the chance big issue is the secondary. Charles Cook that you mentioned was a free safety playing behind Geoff Dunham and was moved from that position after watching some of the games again I see him at Sam back and Will back then at a sort of LB/Strong safety. I did some research and this kid is 6'4 218lbs with very good hands, 4.45 speed, played receiver and DB in high school played on a state championship team and holds the Texas state interception record of 16 in his senior year. Why not put him back at FS so you have a fast big guy in the secondary that can hit and cover receivers that are fast and big? Might help? Just a thought. Whats your take?
ReplyDeleteI agree. Is agressive.
ReplyDeleteanyone know who this fast new recruite is anyone have any info.
ReplyDeleteCannon goes to "Gadsden" City. A hs powerhouse in AL that produced NFL DB Dre Kirkpatrick. It said in the local paper his decision was between Yale & Harvard
