If you had told me Yale would have no turnovers and Roberts threw for 410 yards, I would have liked our chances. 5 of 18 on third down killed those hopes.
When is the next time The Game will be a game? That would be when Tony Reno is gone.
Where are all those people who insisted that Yale was losing because the Williams recruits sucked and once Tony plays his recruits happy days would be hear again?
The further we get away from the Williams recruiting classes, the worst the defeats get.
If you say injuries over the last 4 years, I will say strength, conditioning and how practices are run once the season starts (Too physical). There are no excuses so all you Reno homers, please don't make any.
Yale hired someone who's highest position had been special teams coordinator, so this is what you get. On top of that he is an arrogant know it all, which is actually part of the problem. You can't learn anything if you already think you know everything.
How many more years of all these injuries before the genius figures out that maybe he is doing something wrong.
I don't blame Reno. I blame the idiots who hired him.
As I have said over the last 4 years. Time proves all things and I think we all can agree that we have seen enough of Tony Reno.
The name is TruthTeller because I have no ax to grind. Look objectively at the last 4 years and rather than name calling state some objective facts. If you were to review my comments over the last 4 years boy genius has made me look like a prophet.
I have been mostly silent over the last 2 years, letting the situation play itself out.
You are just a Reno apologist. When someone isn't qualified for the job to begin with, then doubles down on stupid by changing everything simply to put his stamp on it, and then combines that with an inability to learn partially because he is so arrogant no one can tell him anything, and then toss in being standoffish with parents you have a losing combination.
Truth Teller... Most of us us have enjoyed you being "mostly silent" the last 2 years. Your posts always seem to come when we lose. Just go away please.
Could it be the reason we didn't hear from you for a while was because Yale was 8-2 last year including a victory over a FBS program? You only resurface Truth Teller when the team has a disappointing loss so you can criticize Coach Reno. You're never around to say anything positive or to celebrate after a victory. You hate Reno more than you like Yale football.
Fact is, Reno has a winning record at Yale over these least four years. That's the objective reality. Reno is a great coach and the program is going in the right direction. I fave a feeling we won't be hearing much more from you in the years to come.
I did so fact checking. Last season Yale scored a lot of points. Reno had the gift of Deon Randall and Tyler Varga. The top 5 in scoring were all Seniors (Williams). Yale gave up a lot of points last year. Where has Reno been more aggressive in playing "his" guys, over experienced players, Defense.
In most cases Yale is scoring enough points to win games. The Defense is not good.
Question, so who has the Reno staff coached and made better on defense or offense. Part of the problem is they can't stay healthy enough to get better but after 4 years who's fault is that.
BTW, You must not have been around Yale long. If Reno keeps losing to Harvard, he will not be around.
I will crawl back in my hole until next season where we again will the "bad luck" of 10+ contributors being injured and everyone will use it as an excuse and no one will ask why it keeps happening.
Harvard had a clear and effective game plan - stop the run and let Yale pass. What was OUR game plan?? No matter how many times they beat us, they are always up for the Yale game, but too many times Yale comes out flat. Why? Last year was an exception, but we still managed to lose in the last 55 seconds.
Varga came in immediately after Reno got the job, he wasn't Williams' recruit.
This season had its ups and downs and enough for the naysayers and the people who are more positive to see through their respective filters.
I saw some very disappointing things this year, particularly on the OL, but given we were down to our 13th string RBs or whatever it was (yes, that's hyperbole), I'll take the winning record and hope for continued improvement. Losing to Columbia was disappointing but are a better team than their record showed and they improved greatly during the season. The other three losses were to teams that were better than us.
I'm no expert on whether Reno is the right guy or not, but I'll take him over his predecessor. Williams, by his in-game decisions and the reasons he was forced to leave, embarrassed the program and the school, no matter what good he did otherwise.
Thank you to the seniors for all your dedication and effort on behalf of Yale football, I hope you all got a lot from the experience. Welcome to the football alumni family.
On the whole, this Eli is satisfied with Yale's performance this season -- both the team and the coaching staff. I'm hardly delighted with our 6-4 record, but I take comfort in the fact that, for the first time in 120 years, Yale played a majority of its games on the road (and won two-thirds of them). The last Yale team to complete a perfect season, the 1960 team, not coincidentally played only one road game out of nine. The last undefeated team, Dowling's '68 bunch, played only three road games out of nine. Yes, a home-loaded schedule makes a difference in a team's record (even if the home-field advantage wasn't visible against Columbia this year).
3:54 - Satisfied with Yale's performance this year? Let me offer an opposing opinion. I think the Reno tenure has been very disappointing. When a new Yale coach has had four years to put his program in place and in that fourth year posts a 3-4 Ivy record which includes a home loss to Columbia (its only Ivy win), that should not be acceptable to anyone who supports this program. Player and program development seem like huge problems under Coach Reno. We've now seen a whole class go through, many of whom were handed jobs the moment they got here. None of them seem to have improved much. The best place to look, I think, is the defensive backfield. Virtually every kid there was handed a starting position by Reno from the moment he got there because the Tom Williams cupboard was allegedly so bare, and these Reno recruits just couldn't be kept on the bench. Yet the defensive backfield four years later is still arguably the weakest part of this team. Even those who complained about unprepared kids being handed jobs believed that while that seemed unfair and maybe even stupid at the time, at least Yale's defense three years down the line would be beastly as a result of sacrificing wins in the name of player development. No such result followed. Those players didn't get any better and neither did the defense. Now the offensive line appears poised to join the secondary as a remarkably weak link. The fact that with Longinotti leaving, no one can name with certainty even one offensive line starter next year is hard to believe. How is that program building? You say "Bring on 2016." Well, here is a preview: Pre-season predictions for Yale will put them in the middle to the bottom of the pack and there will be little reason to doubt them. But the Reno apologists will. I don't see progress; I see stagnancy and mediocrity. There is just nothing being built here and it's not "satisfactory."
I was not a fan of Williams, especially after his stupid fake punt call against Harvard, and I was pleased when Reno was hired. His earlier tenure as defensive backs coach produced some good players, and I had an opportunity to have a brief conversation with him right after he was hired and was impressed with his recruiting insights. But, after watching his teams for the last four years, I'm not so sure he can get the job done. Yes, last years team was very good. But then, a player like Varga comes along at Yale once a generation. Watching The Game yesterday, I was struck by a number of things. The main one was that we just don't have the same talent Harvard does. Maybe this isn't a fair comparison, since Harvard been on an amazing run, but the highly touted recruits Reno has brought in ( other than Varga) just haven't progressed to be stars. I'm not sure what the problem is, and I have no idea what the answer is, but something has to change. I'm tired of losing to Harvard.
I am not into criticizing the kids (and that is what they are) because unlike, say, the "kids" at FSU, USC, et.al., they aren't getting paid for their efforts and I believe they try just as hard and care just as much (more, maybe). Likewise, criticizing the coaching staff seems like more trouble than it's worth. It's that they are above and beyond reproach; it's just that I'm no expert, and I have the good sense to know it.
However, I would like to make a suggestion: replace Locke as the kickoff return man. You take away his 84 yarder against Cornell and he didn't even average 20 yards per return. He may be as fast as The Flash, but he exhibits zero instinct for the position and seems to be, sorry to say, gutless. He shrinks and almost balls up into a protective fetal position at contact. I propose they put Harris back there (provided he isn't starting next year).
8:46 You just started by saying you're "not into criticizing the kids" and then called one of them gutless. Which could best be described as, um... let me think of a word. How about "gutless"?
I just hope the coaches are held accountable for this season of mediocrity. This season was a total failure by the coaches. They played three good teams all year and lost to all of them badly. Three blowouts. If finishing 4th in the Ivy League is the standard then just cancel the program and put the money into the science department. Last year they finished 3rd which still sucks. Time for answers by the coaches.
6:46, I agree. Varga was indeed a once in a lifetime Yale player. Morgan Roberts had his best year not only because he had Varga behind him but because he had Grant Wallace and Deon Randle to throw to. A very solid line anchored by terrific multi-year starters Will Chism, Ben Carbery (both Williams recruits) and Luke Longinotti was the best in the Ivy League. Grant Wallace and Deon Randle were there. Yet Reno could not get an Ivy championship or even a Harvard win. Where you really hit the nail on the head was when you said the highly touted recruits Reno has brought in just haven't progressed to be stars. Indeed they have not. I don't need to name the names - because we all remember them - of the kids who we read had turned down numerous offers from major conference D1 programs. So why aren't any of them huge stars at Yale?
Reno is a marginal judge of talent. He has people brainwashed that he is getting better kids then prior Yale coaches. Guess what he's not and his so called recruits that have all these division 1 offers do not either. I've watched Bezney, Friedline and Cannon get completely man handled game in and game out for two years. If they lined up against a Big 10 or PAC 12 lineman they might get paralyzed after being driven into the ground. It's all a sham. I hope they fire Reno today. He's a .500 coach and will never beat Harvard EVER!
You people, are barking up the wrong tree. So breath and let me dive into these murky waters. 1st the person of blame is Bart Giametti The Yale Pres. Back in the 70's and 80's he went along with demoting The football team to D2. 2nd Mostly to whom this falls on is Dick Levine, the former President who was a great academics person. He hated sports in particular Football good riddance to him. Solavoy, is my hope along with Reno to get this going again. Looking back on the season 6-4 is what it is. I was hoping for 1 more but its not 5 and 5 or worse. Considering what unfolded to this team. Reno has done a great job in recruiting.Teevens took 8 years to win his title. Murphy with the Harvard backing of and awesome President Scalise has the blessing to do and get what he wants.Unlike Reno who has a very stringent admissions policy. I sAY KEEP HIM AROUND LET HIM DO HIS JOB AND HOPEFULLY THE POLICY UNDER PRESIDENT PETER SOLAVOY WILL PAY DIVIDENDS. Your friend in Yale. Jon Harris
Interesting comments 8:46 PM. And you most DEFINITELY ARE trying to criticize kids, which is your right, just don’t lie and say you are not, be straight and true with what you are doing. I agree that Locke could definitely be better. I agree that it would have been nice to see him rip off a few more long runs and he could have run tougher. However take away that 84 yard return (as you suggested) and he still has the second highest single season KOR return average in Yale football history, and he is still the second leading KOR man in the Ivy’s. Take every person in the Ivy’s longest return away and all averages will drastically drop of course. That 84 yard return took a little more than luck to pull off also though, don’t you think? Probably not. His last few games were definitely not great and as I mentioned improvement is needed there. However minus the “fluke” long return, statistically he had a season comparable to all of the Ivy League from his position, which is more than we can say for many on our roster. That is most definitely a positive (however quantified) not a negative. I thought as you said these are kids who “try just as hard and care just as much (more, maybe).”, but Locke is “gutless”? I guess he is not one of these kids huh? Or perhaps the positives you bestowed don’t apply to him? Sounds like an ax to grind, wonder why? Taking the opportunity to exercise your right to specifically criticize a player and not have the BALLS to identify yourself and own your criticism…THAT is gutless.
I agree with many in that the staff needs to do a better job with coaching up the kids and making them better, which is what is separating them from other staffs in the Ivy’s. There were a handful of guys like Locke (Egu, Drwal, Siragusa [who was injured but returned], and a few others) that started off the season hot, but seemed to wallow in anonymity as the season progressed, this is tough and (taking injuries into account) is a result of these guys not improving during the season. There is some staff culpability there. The staff does a good job in preparation and in game adjustments. However player maturation, I would agree with some in that it needs to improve. If we ever want a piece of an Ivy League championship we need to make these and some more changes, or else we will continue to finish in the middle of the pack. There needs to be a lot of improvement, on a good amount of fronts. This is what the off-season is for, hope the time is used wisely and effectively.
Offence: Points per game scored: 6th, ahead of Cornell & Columbia. Red Zone Scoring: 6th, ahead of Cornell & Columbia. Defense: Points per game allowed: 5th, ahead of Penn, Cornell & Brown. Sacks: 7th, ahead of Cornell. Penalty yards: Led the league with 821, 2nd was Dartmouth with 763. Harvard had 630.
You all can draw your own conclusions.
I selected these stats because I think that they are key and representative of overall team and coaching performance. I look at the penalties as inexcusable as it points to coaching and discipline. Either we don't have the players Reno has told us we have, or the coaches that we hoped we had, or both.
The most alarming, in this order are penalty yards, sacks, and red zone scoring. Those are basically the story of the season. Many mistakes, no pressure on the opposing QB, and missed opportunities on offense all over the place. In the least this needs to change.
Interesting, in some games - Maine, Lehigh, Brown and Princeton - the OL played very well and the defense was excellent (you could also add Colgate, the Patriot League undefeated champion),but in others - Dartmouth, Columbia and Harvard - these two elements were just awful. Any suggestions?
When does this piece of trash start pumping up the next incoming freshman class. Hey Tony how about developing a player for once instead of trying to keep your job by hyping up kids who haven't played a down of college football. Yale has talent, they don't have coaching. They should have been fired for losing to Columbia.
2:57 PM has a point. How can the OL and the defense look so good in one game and so bad in the next? It might be just the strength of the opponent, but Columbia? Give me a break!
It's a sad commentary on the direction of the program that the rookies of the year are the long snapper and a receiver who had 12 catches for 67 yards. With all the injuries, and a team with a mediocre record, you'd expect that the freshmen would be getting some real playing time and opportunities to contribute. Where were the frosh OL's, RB's, DL's and WR's? They can't all have been hurt. Let's hope next year's recruits have some real quality.
Guys one quick thought What a difference a week makes. The last to games with Brown and Princeton Reno was a hero. Now everyone says get rid of Reno. Give the man some time another year or to. Coach Murphy had some early tough years to .Talent wins games he has to do a better job recruiting. We need big physical mean lineman on both sides of the ball. Not lineman that are 265 pounds but 290 or over 300 . Also we need to hire a experience offense coordinator the play calling this year was terrible. Did anyone notice we ran the same plays that we ran in spring practice open the playbook . Next year put in a new offense try the I formation run some sweeps bootlegs play action passes use the TE we have 7 . Coach you can keep the spread but please try some thing else,
Reno is a coward and refuses to hold the defensive coaches accountable. He fires the DC after going 8-2. This year the defense was pathetic and crumbled against every good team. How long are we going to wait until Yale can put a respectable defense on the field? He's had 4 recruiting classes and 4 years to get it done. We get out hit every single game and our strategy sucks. Time for a change.
5:53 You are a troubled human being having insulted every freshman. Crawl back into your hole you disgusting loser. I pray you are not married nor have kids. You are a low life bottom feeder and I'm sure those are your attributes.
Most of the best of last years recruiting class (this years freshman) spent the year at Choate, let's not forget. They will be in the mix next year.
And for the record, Yale's roster has the most academically qualified Ivy kids on it than any roster in the Ivy's and that is a fact, Harvard on the other hand has the least amount, and that is known fact also.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone , enjoy the Holiday. Congratulations to Darius Manora on his being named Captain of the Yale Football Team 144 Good luck and God bless. Sincerely Jon Harris
The kids at Choate are average as dirt. If we are expecting them to be the answer then just cancel the program. The prep league is the worst league in America and they look average in it. Reno must go on this site and right nonsense like that to try and extend his lifeless coaching career and get people to believe they have the best recruits. The last four classes minus Varga have sucked.
Reno has a winning or .500 record against every Ivy League team except Harvard and Dartmouth. In case you haven't noticed, most Ivy League coaches have struggled against these programs these past four years.
Look, I don't see much acknowledgement above of the ungodly amount of injuries Yale suffered this year. Sure it's football, and every team will have them, but the number of key guys knocked out this year was beyond the pale. #1 RB Candler Rich, FBS-proven WR Bo Hines both played about 1.5 games this year. DB Foye Oloukun. TE Sebastian Little. The #2 RB Salter missed a few weeks and I doubt he was 100% this past Saturday. Every unit suffered at least one significant loss. After losing to Columbia, it seemed Yale might go winless the rest of the way but that sure didn't happen. If not for Yale's talent and resolve a winning season would've been impossible.
Something else insufficiently acknowledged is that Harvard has, I hate to admit, a transcendant Ivy League football program right now. That doesn't mean we can't beat them, just that it takes a remarkable effort and likely a healthy team to do so. Against everyone else we are 14-4 the last two seasons. I'm sure not going to complain about that.
Some programs like Penn and Columbia are on the rise, so the challenges will be as great or greater than ever. However, I look forward to the 2016 campaign with a healthier team, more home games, the big Dartmouth and Penn clashes at Yale Bowl. the big ? is who the new QB will be; if he can get the ball to Hines, Williams-Lopez, Clemons, Siragusa etc. to balance a sterling rushing attack with Rich & Salter & if needed Harris, 2016 can be a great Yale season, one to remember for a long time.
Why bother hiding my name? This is Bill Abelson (WYBC 1983-'88)
Not sure why it is always oversimplified but posters' consensus is to burn thru coaches. Actually had to smile when I saw we've circled back now and are giving Jack a second thought.
Enough with the injuries. Every school in America has injuries in college football. Notre Dame is #6 in the nation with a 5th string RB and a backup QB. Shut your mouth and find a way to win. Reno is a bad football coach with no scheme, no clock management ability and no clue. Fire him today.
It seems as though the Ivy League is simply ignoring Harvard's recruiting violations at every step. An athlete like Desmond Bryant is truly an embarrassment to the entire league and these types of players will soon be the norm for Harvard football with the lowered academic standards.
Even though in his first year he beat veteran coach Bagnoli's Ivy champion Penn and has beaten Phil Estes, one of the best coaches in the Ivies, three straight. I wonder what Princeton people think of their coach, who lost to Yale's "secondary coach" the last two years.
I am not a Reno fan, but a coach deserves 5 years to prove himself (or not). I was opposed when he was hired because of his lack of experience at the head coach or coordinator level. Then, one of his first acts was to refer to the roster he inherited as D3 caliber players - the same group that delivered an 8-2 record as seniors, with help from Varga. I think he's arrogant (without the resume to support it) and I don't think he develops and coaches the players very well. However, he still deserves one more year.
I am a parent of a current player – no names, no need to penalize him for his father’s sins. He has seen playing time so I have no axe to grind with coaches. I am not a coach. So while I can be frustrated with a game plan, I am not competent enough to suggest alternative strategies nor can I read minds and know that the result exactly followed the prepared game plan. Team 144 will be a legitimate measuring stick for Yale football. The starters both on offense and defense will most likely be juniors/seniors with an occasional sophomore or exceptional freshman thrown in due to talent or injuries. In this silly optimistic season, I like to think there is no Ivy League opponent that they cannot compete with or beat. I have seen improvement in this program in these last several years and I hope to see it again this year. Most of the players are not big time recruits, my son was not. I am happy he has this opportunity to play football and attend this great university. Some may never be satisfied but I think this team will prove that they are a group that will succeed at a level beyond the sum of their individual talents. I wish them and their coaches well. Go Dogs!
And it can give us an idea of who is likely to move up in 2016. Why is it we never get a Football Assn Newsletter after the Harvard game? Is it because we always lose? I can't believe it.
I agree with you 3:13. It would take a little imagination because the usual format wouldn't work and that may be the reason for silence. There should be wrap-up issue covering the JV game, telling us what players are eligible to return for a fifth year, and giving some preliminary thoughts on 2016. It's really limp to have it end this way. Someone with some clout should complain.
The Football Y Association is basically a waste. They have no influence on anything. We need someone like Ted Blair to talk to the administration and say we are not going to take the losing to Harvard any longer.
But that is something that really should have been done in 2004 when Harvard won their 4th straight , which at the time, was unprecedented since WWII.
Look where we are now.
I don't care what it takes, something should be done.
The Friends of Harvard Football does a magnificent job of identifying and luring top prospects. They use Harvard celebrities and politicians in a superbly organized program that has obviously proven to be extremely successful. The Yale Football Assn is simply not designed to work this way. Frankly, not enough Yalies seem to care. Also, there is no way Peter Salovey or Tom Beckett are going to let Reno go.
As for Yale, their future looks bright. Yale's best recruits last year were WR Abu Dharamy and QB Tre Moore. The former did a post grad year at Choate and the latter was behind Morgan Roberts. I think we'll see some great things from both of them next year.
Yale's receiver corps should be very strong with Hines, Clemons, Williams-Lopez, Siragusa and Dharamy. I'm also oppositic optimistic on the running backs with a healty Harris, Salter and Rich along with top recruit Andrew Griende. I expect Harris will be the #1 Rb.
Defense should be improved too with Oluokon back playing safety with Carlson and experienced corners Rymiszewski and Alessi. Also look to see last year's recruit Daniel James make an impact on the defensive line with the graduation of Krietzberg.
Question marks are QB and offensive line. I think Tre Moore is the best option for QB as he is their most mobile option which maximizes the opportunities of the spread offense and minimizes Yale's weakness on offensive line.
I share the frustration on the lack of publicity and reporting on the JV game. As far as I know, the game time was not even announced. It's a really nice opportunity to say hello to former players and sports admin folks on the sidelines and to watch the younger players. Yes, Harvard has dominated the JV game too, but that shouldn't a big deal. We STILL don't have any stats from it, no idea who played well for Yale, just one report that we lost by two points.
I know we were depleted by injuries, so... were the quarters reduced to 10 minutes? Was it 8-man football? Two-handed touch? If anyone anywhere can post a report and ideally stats from it, I'd love to read it, it's part of Y-H weekend and the season's climax for me. The Yale Daily News could have come through with a report... but they did not.
Finally, I wonder what the haters will say when Yale goes 9-1 or 10-0 and wins the Ivy title outright. Maybe then they'll crawl off and find some Pop Warner program to hate and criticize with no knowledge or insight whatsoever.
I stopped donating to the Football Y Association because of the lack of transparency. I have absolutely no idea what they actually do and how they spend the money they raise, other than the newsletter and "supporting recruiting travel for coaches" without any sense of how they are improving what the university/athletic department would already do without the additional support. Also no idea how the officers and board of the association are selected or what they do for the association, as I've never once seen any notice of an election of any sort or a request for volunteers for the roles. Same president for as long as memory holds. It's very much a wasted opportunity to support the program better.
The Football Y Association's weekly releases are stale and uninspired in the extreme. Someone with a touch of flair and creativity needs to take over. Ending the run without a wrap-up of the Harvard games and the season as a whole is pitiful. What about a look to the future. Then there's the website which hasn't been refreshed in three or four years and still features Patrick Witt. Come on guys, do more, do better.
We can discuss who is coming back and who is coming in all day long, but I don't believe that the current coaching staff can coach them up to their potential (assuming the players are as good as we're told they are). Until that changes, this blog is going to be a group divided between unconditionally true Yale supporters and Reno haters. I doubt that any other Ivy League team has a coach that is so divisive.
Coach Reno needs to go the team should have shown improvement if he knew how to coach. The defense and offense this year were ultra vanilla a sign of attempting to go 5-5 or 6-4.
Reno is fine The Yale Football team is fine. It was just one of those years.? I would like Mr.Barker to shed some light on current news . on the on goings of said football team ie commits changes to roster, transfers coaching changes etc.
I'd be very pleasantly surprised if this wonderful source of Yale football info manages to survive. Chris didn't leave because he wished to, and his departure makes it that much harder for those who remain. I hope that Mother Yale or the Football Association could step up to the plate, oops wrong sport, in some fashion.
Guys can anyone give us yale fans a update on recruiting ?Post a list do something Mr Harris i have your program. That sat. was not a good day for yale football or recruiting Sad same plays he ran in spring ball.We need a new off coordinator some one with experience. Conlin can stay with the offensive line. What going on with the line they did not have a good year at all . If you watched the harvard line they pulled the guards they double team everyone used trap plays .What do we use that zone blocking? Can we run something else next year and get away from the spread for a few plays.Put a fullback in use the tightends more we have 7 use them We have a good running back coming in next year change the offensive get away from the spread. We have no QB with experience it could be a tough year if changes are not made on both sides of the ball .
Would the Register let us know whether anyone is going to be assigned to Chris Hunn's slot. Maybe the better question would be: is there anyone available to fill Chris Hunn's slot.
Whats going on with recruiting ? No news at all we have room for 5-6 more kids.We need running backs and some big LB.All the other teams have big linebackers 6-2 6-3 -220-230 and these are freshman.
Does anyone know if Larkin is coming back at MLB for his fifth year of eligibility? He's had a ton of injuries, but could be the best LB on this team and injury free next year would be a huge asset.
It's pretty clear that no one from the Register and no influencers at Yale are reading anything we post on this blog.
Monetary cuts and layoffs in the newspaper industry hurt our chances of getting info on recruiting, and that's frustrating, but...
...but there is something far more important, and that is that Coach Reno, assistants, and players are hard at work getting better and building a consistent Ivy League contender.
I hate Harvard, sure, but in a weird way I'm grateful to them. They are a truly remarkable Ivy football program and an example of what is possible. We must strive to meet their standard. Reno's been there, he knows what's up, he's the guy to do it.
The tide turns on November 19, 2016, in Cambridge, MA, ladies and gentlemen.
Season's greetings Yale fans. One more to the mix of incoming recruits. Quinn Dawson. 6-4 215lbs. Qb from Demand Fl. Who is being looked at as a TE ?.I know another TE but the kid is a hellva athlete. Merry Christmas everyone!! Walt I will give you a shout Your friend in Yale Football Jon Harris. Oh Sean Barker please keep this site going our I will not have any use for The New Haven Register thank you.!
Will Yale go the route of Harvard with lights for night games, artificial turf, a balloon cover for winter practice and a jumbotron for the scoreboard (on this one, I hope so). That seems to be what the top recruits want.
Question for you all - turf and the spread offense seem to go together for a speed game. Is there any future for throw back football with power running like the Cozza teams of times gone by?
Fantastic goods from you, man. I have understand your stuff previous to and you are just too magnificent. I actually like what you have acquired here, really like what you are stating and the way in which you say it.
What a shame that you didn't keep this site going.? Chris Hung if you see this. Open it up on your own. If it is anything like Big Green Alert, I would pay a reasonable fee to see results on this team.?
Is there any shot anyone is still alive on here and can give us any indication of how spring football is going with our bulldogs so far (even if only after 2 days)? Such a shame that those of us who want updates can't get them anymore.
If you had told me Yale would have no turnovers and Roberts threw for 410 yards, I would have liked our chances. 5 of 18 on third down killed those hopes.
ReplyDeleteWhen is the next time The Game will be a game? That would be when Tony Reno is gone.
ReplyDeleteWhere are all those people who insisted that Yale was losing because the Williams recruits sucked and once Tony plays his recruits happy days would be hear again?
TruthTeller
Truth Teller = fool, troll, and hater.
ReplyDeleteWhat we have had enough of, is you idiots blinded by your Reno hatred.
6:52
ReplyDeleteThe name is TruthTeller because I have no ax to grind.
TruthTeller
Truth Teller... Most of us us have enjoyed you being "mostly silent" the last 2 years. Your posts always seem to come when we lose. Just go away please.
ReplyDeleteCould it be the reason we didn't hear from you for a while was because Yale was 8-2 last year including a victory over a FBS program? You only resurface Truth Teller when the team has a disappointing loss so you can criticize Coach Reno. You're never around to say anything positive or to celebrate after a victory. You hate Reno more than you like Yale football.
ReplyDeleteFact is, Reno has a winning record at Yale over these least four years. That's the objective reality. Reno is a great coach and the program is going in the right direction. I fave a feeling we won't be hearing much more from you in the years to come.
9:35
ReplyDeleteI did so fact checking.
TruthTeller
Harvard had a clear and effective game plan - stop the run and let Yale pass. What was OUR game plan?? No matter how many times they beat us, they are always up for the Yale game, but too many times Yale comes out flat. Why? Last year was an exception, but we still managed to lose in the last 55 seconds.
ReplyDeleteVarga came in immediately after Reno got the job, he wasn't Williams' recruit.
ReplyDeleteThis season had its ups and downs and enough for the naysayers and the people who are more positive to see through their respective filters.
Bring back Coach Flanders
ReplyDeleteOn the whole, this Eli is satisfied with Yale's performance this season -- both the team and the coaching staff.
ReplyDeleteOn to the 2016 season.
ReplyDelete6:05=Truth Teller=hater
ReplyDeleteI was not a fan of Williams, especially after his stupid fake punt call against Harvard, and I was pleased when Reno was hired. His earlier tenure as defensive backs coach produced some good players, and I had an opportunity to have a brief conversation with him right after he was hired and was impressed with his recruiting insights. But, after watching his teams for the last four years, I'm not so sure he can get the job done.
ReplyDeleteYes, last years team was very good.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I would like to make a suggestion: replace Locke as the kickoff return man.
ReplyDeleteI just hope the coaches are held accountable for this season of mediocrity. This season was a total failure by the coaches. They played three good teams all year and lost to all of them badly. Three blowouts. If finishing 4th in the Ivy League is the standard then just cancel the program and put the money into the science department. Last year they finished 3rd which still sucks. Time for answers by the coaches.
ReplyDelete6:46, I agree.
ReplyDeleteReno is a marginal judge of talent.
ReplyDelete5:14 = HATER TROLL
ReplyDeleteYou people, are barking up the wrong tree. So breath and let me dive into these murky waters. 1st the person of blame is Bart Giametti The Yale Pres. Back in the 70's and 80's he went along with demoting The football team to D2.
ReplyDelete2nd Mostly to whom this falls on is Dick Levine, the former President who was a great academics person.
ReplyDeleteI agree with many in that the staff needs to do a better job with coaching up the kids and making them better, which is what is separating them from other staffs in the Ivy’s.
TNC
Offence:
ReplyDeletePoints per game scored: 6th, ahead of Cornell & Columbia.
Red Zone Scoring: 6th, ahead of Cornell & Columbia.
Defense:
Points per game allowed: 5th, ahead of Penn, Cornell & Brown.
Sacks: 7th, ahead of Cornell.
Penalty yards:
Led the league with 821, 2nd was Dartmouth with 763.
Good points, but isn't it offense?
ReplyDeleteThe most alarming, in this order are penalty yards, sacks, and red zone scoring. Those are basically the story of the season. Many mistakes, no pressure on the opposing QB, and missed opportunities on offense all over the place. In the least this needs to change.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, in some games - Maine, Lehigh, Brown and Princeton - the OL played very well and the defense was excellent (you could also add Colgate, the Patriot League undefeated champion),but in others - Dartmouth, Columbia and Harvard - these two elements were just awful. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI am embarrassed as a Yale fan to have Tony Reno coaching the team. I feel for the kids.
ReplyDeleteAny details on the JV game?
ReplyDeleteWhen does this piece of trash start pumping up the next incoming freshman class. Hey Tony how about developing a player for once instead of trying to keep your job by hyping up kids who haven't played a down of college football. Yale has talent, they don't have coaching. They should have been fired for losing to Columbia.
ReplyDelete5:53 I'm embarrassed that an idiot like you is a Yale fan
ReplyDelete10:03 = hater troll
ReplyDelete5:53PM and 10:03PM you re both idiots
ReplyDeleteHow did Harvard manage to sneak in Larry Allen's son? I'd love to see an independent audit of his transcript and test scores.
ReplyDelete2:57 PM has a point. How can the OL and the defense look so good in one game and so bad in the next? It might be just the strength of the opponent, but Columbia? Give me a break!
ReplyDeleteReno is no angel. He has plenty of unqualified players on the roster. Let's Audit Yale's kids as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad commentary on the direction of the program that the rookies of the year are the long snapper and a receiver who had 12 catches for 67 yards. With all the injuries, and a team with a mediocre record, you'd expect that the freshmen would be getting some real playing time and opportunities to contribute. Where were the frosh OL's, RB's, DL's and WR's? They can't all have been hurt.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope next year's recruits have some real quality.
Coach you can keep the spread but please try some thing else,
ReplyDeleteYou new guys are doing a great job keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteReno is a coward and refuses to hold the defensive coaches accountable.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete5:53 You are a troubled human being having insulted every freshman.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record, Yale's roster has the most academically qualified Ivy kids on it than any roster in the Ivy's and that is a fact, Harvard on the other hand has the least amount, and that is known fact also.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone , enjoy the Holiday. Congratulations to Darius Manora on his being named Captain of the Yale Football Team 144 Good luck and God bless.
ReplyDeleteSincerely Jon Harris
The kids at Choate are average as dirt. If we are expecting them to be the answer then just cancel the program. The prep league is the worst league in America and they look average in it. Reno must go on this site and right nonsense like that to try and extend his lifeless coaching career and get people to believe they have the best recruits. The last four classes minus Varga have sucked.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete12:07 = hater troll
Ask Princeton and Brown, two of the strong programs in the Ivy League, just how much the last four classes at Yale "sucked".
If the goal is to beat Brown then drop football.
ReplyDeleteReno has a winning or .500 record against every Ivy League team except Harvard and Dartmouth. In case you haven't noticed, most Ivy League coaches have struggled against these programs these past four years.
ReplyDeleteVery good point, 5:47 pm.
ReplyDeleteLook, I don't see much acknowledgement above of the ungodly amount of injuries Yale suffered this year.
Bill Ableson's comments are the most sensible I have seen on this blog all year! Well said,Bill!
ReplyDeleteHere's to a great 2016 Yale football campaign. Already looking forward to it Go Yale.!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure why it is always oversimplified but posters' consensus is to burn thru coaches. Actually had to smile when I saw we've circled back now and are giving Jack a second thought.
ReplyDeleteEnough with the injuries. Every school in America has injuries in college football. Notre Dame is #6 in the nation with a 5th string RB and a backup QB. Shut your mouth and find a way to win. Reno is a bad football coach with no scheme, no clock management ability and no clue. Fire him today.
ReplyDelete4:31 = hater troll + an idiot
ReplyDeleteMr Baker Any updates on yale football recruits ? can you tell me who covers yale basketball . Thank you .
ReplyDeleteBring back Coach Flanders. He got screwed and backstabbed by Reno for no reason. Quality coach and players loved him.

ReplyDeleteCan't call me a troll. As a recent former player I love Yale and just calling a spade a spade. Nice try 12:59
ReplyDelete9:15 = hater troll
ReplyDeleteIt seems as though the Ivy League is simply ignoring Harvard's recruiting violations at every step. An athlete like Desmond Bryant is truly an embarrassment to the entire league and these types of players will soon be the norm for Harvard football with the lowered academic standards.
ReplyDeleteWho is Desmond Bryant?
ReplyDeleteReno should be fired plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteThe 2015 recruiting class was the worst in the past ten years.I guess that is not Reno's fault either.
ReplyDeleteReno's limit in coaching is maybe secondary coach.
ReplyDeleteEven though in his first year he beat veteran coach Bagnoli's Ivy champion Penn and has beaten Phil Estes, one of the best coaches in the Ivies, three straight. I wonder what Princeton people think of their coach, who lost to Yale's "secondary coach" the last two years.
ReplyDeleteReno has failed to beat either Dartmouth or Harvard in four years. Case closed Reno should go!
ReplyDelete12:56 = hater troll
ReplyDeleteI am not a Reno fan, but a coach deserves 5 years to prove himself (or not).
ReplyDeleteI am a parent of a current player – no names, no need to penalize him for his father’s sins. He has seen playing time so I have no axe to grind with coaches. I am not a coach. So while I can be frustrated with a game plan, I am not competent enough to suggest alternative strategies nor can I read minds and know that the result exactly followed the prepared game plan.
ReplyDeleteTeam 144 will be a legitimate measuring stick for Yale football. Go Dogs!
Wonderful! We need to hear more from parents of players!
ReplyDeleteWon't someone tell us about the JV game. Who did what? It's the closest we've come to beating H in football in many a moon.
ReplyDeleteAnd it can give us an idea of who is likely to move up in 2016. Why is it we never get a Football Assn Newsletter after the Harvard game? Is it because we always lose? I can't believe it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 3:13.
ReplyDeleteThe Football Y Association is basically a waste. They have no influence on anything. We need someone like Ted Blair to talk to the administration and say we are not going to take the losing to Harvard any longer.
ReplyDeleteBut that is something that really should have been done in 2004 when Harvard won their 4th straight , which at the time, was unprecedented since WWII.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there is no way Peter Salovey or Tom Beckett are going to let Reno go.
Is this blog kaput? Nothing more on recruiting and other skullduggery?
ReplyDeleteChris Hunn should create his own Yale football blog.
ReplyDeleteyale sucks
ReplyDelete8:27, YOU SUCK.
ReplyDeleteAs for Yale, their future looks bright.
Right on, 11:13 pm.
ReplyDeleteI share the frustration on the lack of publicity and reporting on the JV game.
Go Blue!
ReplyDeleteThe Football Y Association's weekly releases are stale and uninspired in the extreme.
ReplyDeleteWe can discuss who is coming back and who is coming in all day long, but I don't believe that the current coaching staff can coach them up to their potential (assuming the players are as good as we're told they are). Until that changes, this blog is going to be a group divided between unconditionally true Yale supporters and Reno haters. I doubt that any other Ivy League team has a coach that is so divisive.
ReplyDelete11:08 it is not the coach who is divisive, it is the fans.
ReplyDeleteCoach Reno needs to go the team should have shown improvement if he knew how to coach. The defense and offense this year were ultra vanilla a sign of attempting to go 5-5 or 6-4.
ReplyDeleteReno is fine The Yale Football team is fine. It was just one of those years.?
ReplyDeleteI would like Mr.Barker to shed some light on current news . on the on goings of said football team
ie commits changes to roster, transfers coaching changes etc.

ReplyDeleteGuys can anyone give us yale fans a update on recruiting ?Post a list do something Mr Harris i have your program. That sat. was not a good day for yale football or recruiting Sad same plays he ran in spring ball.We need a new off coordinator some one with experience.
ReplyDeleteWould the Register let us know whether anyone is going to be assigned to Chris Hunn's slot. Maybe the better question would be: is there anyone available to fill Chris Hunn's slot.

ReplyDelete9:02 = Moron 7:31 is spot on
ReplyDelete6:25 = yet another hater troll fool. Add idiot while we are at it.
ReplyDeleteWhats going on with recruiting ? No news at all we have room for 5-6 more kids.We need running backs and some big LB.All the other teams have big linebackers 6-2 6-3 -220-230 and these are freshman.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Larkin is coming back at MLB for his fifth year of eligibility? He's had a ton of injuries, but could be the best
ReplyDeleteLB on this team and injury free next year would be a huge asset.
It's pretty clear that no one from the Register and no influencers at Yale are reading anything we post on this blog.
ReplyDeleteMonetary cuts and layoffs in the newspaper industry hurt our chances of getting info on recruiting, and that's frustrating, but...
...but there is something far more important, and that is that Coach Reno, assistants, and players are hard at work getting better and building a consistent Ivy League contender.
1:45am, I like the cut of your jib. Here's hoping you're correct. Losing to those Crimson #$*&! is torture.
ReplyDeleteTeam 144 will be wearing Under Armour gear instead of Nike. Go over to http://www.voy.com/152805/ for some other decent ivy league football talk.
ReplyDeleteSeason's greetings Yale fans. One more to the mix of incoming recruits. Quinn Dawson.
ReplyDelete6-4 215lbs. Qb from Demand Fl. Who is being looked at as a TE ?.I know another TE but the kid is a hellva athlete. Merry Christmas everyone!! Walt I will give you a shout
Your friend in Yale Football Jon Harris. Oh Sean Barker please keep this site going our I will not have any use for The New Haven Register thank you.!
Man this sucks,no news you dropped it like a cancer. The Hell with you.!!!
ReplyDeleteWill Yale go the route of Harvard with lights for night games, artificial turf, a balloon cover for winter practice and a jumbotron for the scoreboard (on this one, I hope so). That seems to be what the top recruits want.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for you all - turf and the spread offense seem to go together for a speed game. Is there any future for throw back football with power running like the Cozza teams of times gone by?
The days of grass fields are over,
ReplyDeleteAny update on list of recruits?
ReplyDeleteThis site is dead
ReplyDeleteFantastic goods from you, man. I have understand your stuff previous to

Sports Illustrated article on Yale recruit JP Shohfi. If he's as good as they make him out to be, he should terrorize the Ivies.

What a shame that you didn't keep this site going.? Chris Hung if you see this. Open it up on your own. If it is anything like Big Green Alert, I would pay a reasonable fee to see results on this team.?

ReplyDeleteNice write up on the 2016 Yale recruits.
yalefb.com is starting up a yale blog
ReplyDeleteSounds like to new blog will be more a cheering group than an honest evaluation of what's going on.
ReplyDeleteWhat's an honest evaluation to you, 7:02?
ReplyDeleteBlaming Reno for every loss?
Pointing out negatives or areas needing work, when called for, and not just viewing everything through rose-colored glasses.
ReplyDeleteIs there any shot anyone is still alive on here and can give us any indication of how spring football is going with our bulldogs so far (even if only after 2 days)? Such a shame that those of us who want updates can't get them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see that Jim Fuller is covering Yale Football again. Hopefully he'll restart this blog.
