Preseason camp begins for Yale

Yale took the field for the first time on Saturday. Here's a story from the first day.

Here's some more quick tidbits...

-- The team, overall, just looks bigger and stronger. Take Spencer Rymiszewski for example. He played well at CB on Saturday and must have packed on 10-15 lbs.

"Guys worked," Tony Reno said. "They're noticeably bigger."

-- Copache Tyler missed practice for undisclosed reasons on Saturday, but is expected to return. Beau Iverson (illness) will miss some time.

-- An intrasquad scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday and Yale will scrimmage at Brown on Sept. 5.

-- QB Rafe Chapple appears to have the backup QB job right now.

-- I caught up with Bo Hines, who was excited to be back on the field. He was impressed with the level of play, he said. He also spoke highly of DBs Cole Champion and Foye Oluokun.

Said Oluokun about Hines: "He's getting it. As he gets up to speed, you can see the tools he has."

Oluokun also mentioned WR Chris Williams-Lopez as a player that stood out on Saturday.

-- Some highlights...

Robert Clemons made the catch of the day, a diving grab down the right sideline...Chapple connected with Hines for a TD...Matt Oplinger broke up a pass...Will Bryan had an INT on a tipped pass...Conor Furey showed his athleticism making a nice catch in the air...Hayden Carlson and James Nicholas also had INTs...Duncan Morfitt looked solid.

Thank you, Chris. You answered my #1 question: who is the #2 QB. On that subject: who is CJ McCord?
My #2 question: how do the RBs look? Tell us they're fast and powerful.

CJ McCord OB Huntington Beach Ca. Height 6-0 Weight 180lb would make a nice WR.

    Walt:
Is McCord a walk-on and, therefore, a freebie for recruiting purposes?

Nothing to tell on anyone seriously yet. Today was the first day of pads so we will be able to see more things after that. A better indication of things will be after the scrimmage on Saturday 8/29.

Mr Harris The scrimmage sat was hard to take no offense the longest run by a back was about 9 yards . The passing game was just ok.The offense line had no spark looked to me no leader on the line just dull football .One player that i throught played well was Tre Moore kid can run and pass going to be fun watching him the next few years. One note a lot of lineman did not play because of injury mostly freshman. You know they only lost two starters on the line from last year .Will Chism and Ben Carbery. I was hopeing the line would better then last year. Iknow we have no varga but the offense line played soft to me i hope that changes. The defense was jacked up all day played with fire.off line took a pounding this has to be fixed. They have a lot if leaders on defense one person is Carl Kretzberg just a great player I give the defense an Aplus THAT IT FOR NOW ENJOY THE DAY
