Wednesday Leftovers

Some additional news and notes...

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH

The Big Green is 2-1, losing only the No. 4 New Hampshire on the road. Dalyn Williams is dynamic and one of the Ivy’s top QBs. They spread the field well and have a ton of weapons, including WRs Bo Patterson, Ryan McManus and RB Kyle Bramble. Defensively, they are very good up front. Dartmouth led the Ivy in points allowed last season. It was very stingy in the red zone in a win over Penn last week, holding the Quakers to a pair of field goals in their three red zone opportunities.

“When the preseason polls came out, Dartmouth had every reason to think they’d be picked No. 1,” Tony Reno said. “They beat Princeton the last game of the year last year. They came within a field goal of beating Penn and Harvard.”

OUT FOR SEASON

So. WR Myles Gaines and So. DL Ben Bedard are both out for the season due to injury, Reno said Tuesday.

Gaines suffered an injury in the second half of the win against Cornell. Bedard was injured in practice last week. Both are expected to redshirt.

JOHNSON SCORES

RB Everett Johnson broke through the line and scored on a 34-yard touchdown run with just over 5 minutes to play on Saturday.

Johnson plays some special teams and serves as a scout team running back.

“He hasn’t had the chance to get many carries,” Schmittgens said. “I think I was the first one out there when he scored. You like to see those guys that work hard, get some payoff from it.”

Added Reno: “He’s a great back. He’s just behind three really good players. He showed his ability on that run Saturday.”

FORMER BULLDOGS

A pair of former Yale players – Chandler Henley and A.J. Haase – are both on the Vanderbilt coaching staff. Both are offensive graduate assistants.

Henley was a WR and Haase was a TE, both part of Yale’s 2006 Ivy League championship team. Vanderbilt is 1-5 this season.

The 2-deep chart for the Dartmouth game is out-of-date. Now that Myles Gaines is out for the season, who replaces him as the WR back-up behind Deon Randall?

Chris; Who is the third string quarterback?

Last time I asked Reno about the third string QB, he said it was between Johnson, Barmore and Chapple. All are in the mix.
As for Randall's backup, I will check tomorrow. I'm assuming it's one of the freshman though.

Johnson (6'0"), Barmore (6'2") and Chapple(6'0")are all freshman QBs, and are the shortest of the 7 3rd string candidates, with 5 of the seven being freshmen.

Logan Scott did not seem to be as sharp in the Cornell game as he appeared to be last year. Has Logan digressed, or is he just not getting enough reps in practice, or is Roberts so much better this year than he was last year?

I am so sorry to hear that Ben and Myles are out for the season .
I had hoped that Bens shoulder problems were over.
Myles is a talent along with Sykes that sucks.
    Sincerely Jon Harris

3:19, not sure where your going with the heights of those three??
Scott is 6'1" and is currently our #2 guy and Roberts at 6'3" is only one inch taller than Barmore. I think the emphasis on QB height isn't what it used to be. I'm sure it will be a challenge for any of the backups to perform up to their ability in a game with the very limited reps in practice. Nothing new, such is the life of a backup QB..
