One of the biggest victories in Yale Bowl history - and on its 100th anniversary! I was at the last victory over Army in 1955, but in some ways (FCS vs FBS)this was even bigger!

Seriously, where are the trolls. You misanthropic little men who trash the coaches and the players, most of whom never get the headlines but who bust their butts like none of you ever have in your lives. Where are you? Crickets!

There are really only two candidates for biggest non-Ivy win in my 40+ years of Eli football: yesterday and the Navy win in 1981. I'm not going to choose -- way to go!

Watched the game on TV. Great win for the program. Offensive play calling is much improved. Reno is managing Varga's snaps better to keep him fresh.

The defense is still a concern. There were a lot of Army wide open receivers and Army also ran the ball well, however the defense made some key plays when they had too.

Yale definitely got some breaks from Army mistakes and 4 defensive starters for Army being out with injuries, but they took advantage of them. I wouldn't start making space for an Ivy Championship trophy just yet. The defense must get better. I give credit and criticism as I see it. That does make me a troll, it makes me objective which most of you Pom Pom carriers on this blog are not.

    Truth Serum,

Part of your "truth" obviously does not include the Yale mistakes; the pick 6 and the fumble on the Army 13.

Since you only point out the breaks Yale got from Army and not the breaks Army got from Yale, it DOES NOT make you objective. It makes you a troll.

Yale did what it took to win. Is it legal? That up for debate.

10:08 question is it legal ?, what your smoking.?

10:08 the trolls are back! Given the win, that is all they can say. Is it LEGAL? What?????? This was a classy win by a tough and fearless and never ever ever give in team. Credit to the men, to Conlin and Reno and all coaches. This is what happens not just when you build players but a program. Things can happen the rest of the season, there are injuries, there are things you cannot control and it is always important to sustain the energy and will. But the Yale program is back in the right way, that's for sure, given everyone's hard work, top down.Kudos to all

Well put 10:23AM. I am going to start by saying that 2 games do not make a season, I think we all know that. But again I will maintain, that once Reno, the staff, or the team gives me reason to either not believe in them or say something negative about them I definitely will. But at this point, there is nothing but positive to say.
We have seen a lot from our beloved Bulldogs so far. Togetherness, resilience, dedication, patience, drive, determination, maturity. If you are of any knowledge of the situation we were in or football in general you would have (as I did) know that these first 2 games were going to be very difficult for us to win given all of the circumstances. Yet this team has shown us that they are definitely ready for this season and that they are going to fight tooth and nail and try to win every game that they are in. They have shown that they believe in themselves, their team, and their coaches; and this has been a beautiful thing to watch.
To you absolutely ignorant naysayers, who ALL never ever identify yourselves, there is absolutely nothing for you to say so far. I wish 10:08PM had enough courage to identify themselves to be able to have a dialogue about what they think was done “illegally”. Illegal? Are you serious? Ridiculous.
To the educated and mature naysayers, that have the heart to identify themselves, like Truth Teller I invite your input and agree with some points. I would agree that we have some work to do defensively to tighten things up a bit. Giving up 80 points in 2 games (1 pick 6) is something that we are going to need to improve on for the long haul. But at the end of the day, as long as you give up fewer points than you score the game is won.
Although everyone involved deserves some credit for this great start I want to especially acknowledge two individuals considering they are REGULARLY CRUCIFIED on this blog. First Morgan Roberts. As a new fan I believe that one of the best institutions of this program is that at the end of the game the fans and families have the opportunity to go down on the field and greet the players. After each game I have made it a point to go find Roberts and tell him what a great job he has done. While not mistake free he has proved that he is more than capable of not only running the offense but leading the team to wins in the face of large deficits and strong opponents. The offense of course needs to correct some things but large kudos to this young man who very well may have read all of the bad press that has been unfairly bestowed upon him. 2 games does not make a season, but he has done great so far.

And secondly Coach Reno. Of course he is under the most scrutiny as it should be in the particular institution of coaching. However all the cowardly naysayers who will never ever identify themselves chalked off 2 losses immediately for this team. In addition he has been completely crucified about his coaching appointments and decisions, decision to play young players, attitude with his current team, and a long list of other unnecessary false negatives. As I have been saying since I got here, you need to give the team a chance to play games before you decided to shoot everyone and everything down. Well so far, even though 2 games do not make a season, Reno has done a tremendous job of leading his team to 2 very big and important victories for the season and the university. He has those kids believing in themselves, the team, and him and his staff. This goes to show that NONE of us know what is going on inside that locker room, but we know whatever it is, has made these guys want to fight AS HARD AS THEY CAN to win for their team and their university. And we all know that Reno, like it or not, has a large amount to do with that. So again, for the 3rd time, 2 games does not make a season. But so far…so VERY good. Let’s keep it going. Go bulldogs!!!

    Well said 1:33

All I would add is that in both games I never saw heads hanging with the deficits like we have all seen in some of the blowouts that we have suffered in the past few years. This team has talent and believes in themselves. Whether you agree with evry decision that Coach Reno has made or not, you have to give him credit for that. We've come a long way from 2 and 8 2 years ago. But even in that season you saw some unpected spunk in the Penn game. I love it!
    Go Bulldogs!

There is much to like about Morgan Roberts this year, particularly his ball handling skills. Nobody ever confused me with a QB, but I am, I hope justifiably, delighted with his ability to fake to his RB, and take off himself. He'll probably never break off a really long run, but his faking strikes me as superb. So good, in fact, that I worry about his RBs getting as beat up on these plays as when they carry the ball themselves.
    It's an absolutely glorious beginning.

1:33 TNC: beautiful blog and every single word true. Also the comment about a good coach building a PROGRAM not just individual players. Coach Reno not only has them believing in themselves, he has good men on the right track. They may lose -and this week AGAIN will be a real test -far from home and on turf -very different from grass - and there actually is nothing BUT tests in the future - but win or lose they will not give in and they are on the way to a healthy overall program.

I would add to the list of people who have been blasted and now deserve credit -Becket. He HIRED this coach. He made that call when the chips were down. he may have made mistakes in the past but with all due respects to everyone, this one was the right one. He listened to the players who had played for Reno when he was at yale and he trusted a young guy who no one will outwork and that has paid off

As a very recent alum who has yet to see Yale win its final game of the season against the Crimson, my final verdict on Reno will be shaped by the team's performance in Allston come November. That being said, very optimistic. Go Bulldogs!

The unity and spirit of this team
is a beautiful thing.I have not seen a team like this since the early 70's.Those were some very good, if not great teams.
You can only play one at a time, each one is very important.

    TNC:

I do not disagree with your observations. However, I do disagree with your conclusion that none of the negative comments previously made about Reno are true. As far as it relates to mine, the are/were.

Reno has grown as a coach which should be expected. However, given that his highest previous position was special teams coordinator he made a lot of mistakes initially. Those were to be expected even though the die hards refuse to admit he ever made any.

I would start with taking the traditional Senior players personal thanks time at the banquet to bring people up to tell us how great he was after he took a team picked to win 6 0r 7 games to a dismal season. The players found out at the last minute they would not have time to speak. Most had already written what they would say. My son was a Senior that year and yes that did rub me the wrong way.

This is one of the many mistakes he has corrected which is great, but it does not change the facts of what he did and the parents and players who were impacted.

In summary, everyone has not lied, he has grown.
