Looks like Mr. Kray was swift enough to grab a life jacket and be rescued while the other are going down with the ship. Good move get out of that place!
Kray was supposedly Reno's right hand man so this move makes you question how Reno treats his fellow coaches. Why would you leave a young head coach who's beating up the PAC 12 in recruiting and stealing D1 kids by the truckload in the Midwest?
Maybe this guy left because he saw an opportunity to move up the ladder to FBS football and latch onto a rising star of a coach (Lembo at Ball State)? Maybe he had an opportunity to move closer to his family? Following this profession, I have noticed that most coaches - no matter the school - stay a year or two and move on. Congrats to Nick and best of luck to a great guy!
And I hope that those posting comments loaded with negativity, pessimism, and misery find the help they need to get fight through their awful lives.
He left because of the money. Reno overpaid for his Harvard buddies like Wilmot to make the move to Yale which left the pool of money for operations bare. Reno treats people like crap regardless to feed his ego. Good move for the kid.
Who cares about a football operations guy? He's basically a secretary, means nothing for the program. Coaches will have to make more copies at the printer no big deal.
I'm with '89 Ivy Champs (great time, btw). A lot of the posts on this board are so disheartening. How pathetic that some people are so obsessed that they take every opportunity to lash out at Tony Reno as if he kicked their dog.
Clearly the school is going to have to convert the gym to athletic department offices because there's no way RTH is big enough to accommodate all these people like the 6:25am poster, with their inside information on how Reno acts and what the coaches and administrators do.
It's beyond me why anyone would want to coach these days if even at Yale they have to be the target of this kind of garbage. Good coach, bad coach, or somewhere in between, they don't deserve it to this extent.
When kids decide to leave the team, in no way is that them being “kicked off”. Kids don’t get kicked off of teams without an arrest, a university infraction, conduct that is detrimental to the team, or something of that nature. Unless this happened with the players that have left, which it has not, they left on their own. Kids leave programs all over the country regardless of the success level of the programs or the division; and they all leave for their own reasons.
What will be “catching up pretty soon” will be the feet in the mouths of the naysayers and all the negative attitude and commenting detractors like you 9:18PM when the Bulldogs continue their success and win 1 maybe 2 Ivy league championships in the next 4 years. This will be thanks to Coach Reno, and ALL his staff, recruits, and everyone currently involved with Yale football. That will be a tremendous indictment of what he has and will continue to do for the program. What great times that will be…GO BULLDOGS!!!
“Blind offerings”? Are you kidding me? You clearly have no idea of the landscape of recruiting and collegiate sports. If you object to a coach telling a recruit things they want to hear to get them to commit then you may as well stay away from collegiate athletics. Welcome to the business amateur. This is a regular practice, this is what recruiting is. Each coach “sweetens” up situations with recruits to get them to choose their institution over another. That is the name of the game. If a player cannot deal with that type of low level adversity and strive to be productive through something like that, how good will they be to their team in a truly pressurized situation?
Common people just calm down. How important is all this anyway? The only place your kids are going after this is the workforce. It's not like they are missing out on some big NFL opportunity or something by coming here. If they were that caliber they would not be looking at the Ivy League to play football. If you have to pay to be here then I would second guess your decision but if you are on financial aid just shut up, get your degree and move on with life. Don't stress over nonsense.
5:10PM, I wish you knew how you sound making such accusations. This is a ridiculous thought. Everyone remotely involved with football and recruiting knows that there are no full scholarships offered in the Ivy League and there never have been. “Offers” from the Ivy’s are in the form of roster sports, invitations to camp, and partial assistance in admissions. That sums it up. No coach offers a full scholarship to kids. Kids here “offer” which of course is described above, and put it in the conversational context of offers from scholarship granting institutions and then misinformed bloggers like yourself run those comments into silly accusations.
You and 3:40PM may even be the same person for that fact. There are no “unethical accusations” being made by the staff. If you want to call the recruiting process “unethical” then this must of course be a blanket state describing the landscape of college sports as a whole, not the estate of Yale football.
Had a Great Phone call with Coach Reno from Yale. I have been officially Offered a Scholarship to Yale University. #blessed #bleedblue 10:03 PM - 11 Mar 2014
The players dislike Reno, he tried to run everyone of us out of the program when he showed up. No sense of what being apart of the Yale community is about.
Yah they really hate him.Talk for yourself that's fine. Please don't project for other people. What malice you may have.Time to be mature, and grow up. If your son or friend had a problem. It's a good time to have closure and move on. Good Luck
I am certain that a majority of the posters on Portal 31 are Harvard agents attempting (and succeeding) in sounding like idiots in order to drive away potential recruits and discourage our athletes.
Reno really had them ready to play last year against Harvard, if it was a fight somebody would have stopped it. That was a massacre and he was out coached and out classed every second of the game. Why would you choose Yale over Harvard, the gap has never been further apart then it is now. The Plan C of Tony Reno is getting away from Yale.
Back up boss, Reno has this tean on the upswing. It took Murhy time to get H to were their at. He is a young coach who is still learning. He will get corrected. 2-8 5-5 I feel 6-4 this year or better. It takes time he has time to get it done boy.
No,But any ethical person has to give a coach time to get his program complete. You think you can do it over night.Of couse not,but I see Yale being better each year. I have not seen recruiting of the caliber of players at Yale since the Cozza years late sixties and late seventies. Jon Harris
No of course not .The guy has 2 years. No one could do it any faster. He has brought and energy and passion to the program and cowards like you keep on bashing him. Get real. I have not seen the caliber of player coming to Yale. since the late sixties and late seventies. So lets wait and see what unfolds
Yes Thats what I'm saying. the guy has coached for 2 years. You keep on bashing him. Whats the matter you have little man syndrome.? The man has brought in a caliber of players. Not seen for some time.but you just keep on being a jerk. Every thing takes time.I can wait longer
Shocked me Murphy didn't push the gas pedal down to the floor and beat them 70-0. Guess he's been around the game too long and didn't want to give Yale extra motivation. Beating them every year is enough.
What would it profit Murphy to do such a thing.?He showed that his team was supreme. All Yale can do is to try match them in the near future. Which humbily I believe TR is trying to do. Everything goes in cycles,Yale beat Princeton 13 years in a row at one time. To say Yale would or could not is ignorance.. Jon Harris
As a player under him. Coach Kray was an awesome addition to the Yale football staff.
ReplyDeleteAnother one bites the dust. Good luck to you Nicl. We wish you the best.
ReplyDeleteNick,
ReplyDeleteThe very best of luck at Ball State and your future endeavors.
Big Nick, you were one of the 1st I met and i wish you the very best.
ReplyDeleteCheers Jon Harris
What does a director of football operations do, say, at a place like Yale?
ReplyDeleteLooks like Mr. Kray was swift enough to grab a life jacket and be rescued while the other are going down with the ship. Good move get out of that place!

Kicking kids off a non scholarship program and changing the culture Leads people to feel that way.
ReplyDeleteNo Class Tony, his methods of cheating will catch up pretty soon.
ReplyDeleteWell said 6:05 AM. I agree…

What will be catching up is blind offering of recruits which Reno frequents.

ReplyDeleteOffering kids full scholarships that have no chance to get into the school is not fair to the kid. Happened several times last year.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous/
ReplyDeletePlease provide the names of those who were offered full scholarships. Thankx.
Not to mention the other things in the program where coaches look the other way on wink wink. I'm sure that is more common in other leagues.

ReplyDeletenobody is taking shots at the kids, its the unethical practices of a coaching staff.

9:01pm You are a dog ,that won't leave that bone alone. You need to be kicked away.
ReplyDeleteYou do not have a clue, interesting that you keep harping on it.
SO TRUE 2:20PM…!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThus the way of the uneducated.
9:01PM you have shown us you don’t have much to offer in intelligent football conversation. Be gone…
