4-down Friday is back. Here is a look at four things to keep an eye on in Yale’s season opener at Colgate on Saturday.
QB mystery: Who will be under center for the Bulldogs? It seems to have come down to Sr. Henry Furman and So. Clemson-transfer Morgan Roberts. Furman did a solid job shifting to QB from WR late last season and looked good in camp. Roberts has looked strong as well. He has exceptional speed and experience playing at a big-time program.
Growing pains: The main concern for the Bulldogs lies within its defense. They are very young (five freshmen on the two-deep) and inexperienced. They will face quite a challenge to open the year against Colgate’s talented offense.
Welcome back: WRs Deon Randall and Chris Smith both return after missing last season. They should make an immediate impact and bolster a passing game that struggled last season.
Dual threat: Colgate QB Gavin McCarney missed last week because of injury. As of Friday, Coaach Biddle says he has a "good shot to play." He’s of the top QBs in the FCS and torched the Bulldogs for six TDs (four rushing, two throwing) in a 47-24 win last season. If he’s unable, look for Dylan Finelli to be under center. He rushed for 74 yards and threw for 46 yards in a 53-23 loss to No. 9 New Hampshire last week.

No reason at all to have 6 underclassman (4 freshman) starting on defense when there are experienced upperclassman on the roster that have proved themselves.
Wow, what an original idea.
Based upon the performances in the scrimmages the best players underclassmen or not are playing.Upper class seniority is a thing in the past.Coach Williams last two recruiting classes were not very good.nglytem
1:27 better take a look at the Bio's of the Williams recruits then comment. You did however hit the nail on the head with one thing.. they were Williams recruits not Reno's!

This thread needs to end. Over the five weeks of camp the players most likely to help Yale win emerge as the starters, whether they are freshmen or seniors. Same as it is anywhere else. No coach puts players on the field who DON'T give him the best chance to win. In my opinion the fact that so many underclassmen are starting is, more than anything else, proof of some mediocre recruiting in the Williams years. And it's funny how circular the arguments are. One person wants to trumpet Nick Okano's sophomore stats as proof that he should be playing, while another attacks Cole Champion's high tackle stats as proof of poor play by the corners. Huh?

Bucket is not empty. Furman and Whitelaw were better than Williams last year, Reno took a team that should have won 5-6 games and turned them into a 2-8 team.
