First, here’s a story
about Yale players juggling pre-med classes and Division I football.
Freshman Blake Thomson
was recruited as an H-Back, a player that could block and catch.
Well Thomson has found
the field at a different position. He’s stepped in at linebacker and was among
the team leaders with six tackles in Saturday’s loss to Dartmouth. The position
is nothing new for the 6-2, 225-pound Thomson. He was both a tight end and a
two-time all-state linebacker at Battle Ground Academy (Tenn.).
“He’s learned the system
quickly and responded to the challenge,” Yale coach Tony Reno said.
Thomson played in his
second game of the season against Dartmouth. He says the game pace and the size
of the players have been the toughest adjustment.
“They didn’t weigh as
much in high school,” Thomson said.
KEYS MAKING PROGRESS
With Tyler Varga out,
sophomore RB Kahlil Keys has seen an increase in his workload. Keys missed last
season with a torn ACL.
He had just four yards on four carries and
added two catches for 16 yards against the Big Green. While he still doesn’t
seem to be at full strength, he is making strides since returning to game
action in Yale’s second game of the year against Cornell. Once he gets going he
will give Yale a boost at RB with his exceptional speed.
“It’s great to see him come
back earlier than we thought,” Reno said. “He’s made huge improvements over the
last two weeks. He’s going to be a really good player.”And check out what this former Yale QB is up to.
What the heck is taking so long with the Varga situation? It cannot be that complicated? Someone needs to make a decision before the kid loses another game.
