At 6 foot 7 and 232
pounds, Yale Jr. Michael Leunen looks like he could bolster the Bulldogs
frontcourt during basketball season. In fact, Leunen was an all-conference
power forward during his days at Westview High in Oregon. His brother Maarty is
a pretty good basketball player as well. He is second on the all-time rebounding
list at the University of Oregon. He was drafted in the second round by the
Houston Rockets and is now playing overseas in Milan. Leunen also has a brother
that played football at Portland State.
“I saw a lot of college
football and basketball,” Leunen said. “It really fueled my interest.”
Well Leunen has turned
out to be a pretty good football player. He’s among QB Eric Williams’ top
targets this season and caught the Bulldogs lone touchdown in their 20-10 loss
to Lafayette last weekend.
POWERS HOPES TO RETURN
John Powers was thriving
in a bigger role this season before he suffered an arm injury against
Dartmouth.
The Sr. DB, who has 26
tackles, hopes to be back.
"I have a hunch I
have not played my last snap," he said.
THE LAST TIME...
Yale is 0-4 and lost its
first two Ivy League games of the year. The last time Yale dropped its first
two Ivy League games was 1997, the first season under Jack Siedlecki.
