Gilligan-Evans headed to Holy Cross

Caleb Gilligan-Evans, a fullback out of Archbishop Stepinac High in White Plains, N.Y., was listed as a member of Holy Cross's official recruiting class.

The 240-pound Gilligan-Evans committed to Yale in December while Tom Williams was still the Bulldogs' head coach. Gilligan-Evans and his family met with new Yale coach Tony Reno. While coming to Yale was still a possibility, Gilligan-Evans explored his options and is one of 30 players listed as part of Holy Cross' recruiting class.

Jim - Do you know what happened here? He received some post-season honors, so he must be a pretty good prospect, obviously with good size. Do you think this was his decision or Reno's? In either case, have you heard anything about other prospects to fill out the class, especially if the Conways are also gone?

  2. There was a report in a local paper that Yale was pulling the offers for the Conway brothers and Gilligan-Evans. Gilligan-Evans' coach said that was not true and Yale would honor its commitment to him if he still opted to come to Yale. The sense I got is the new coaching staff wasn't as enthused about that trio as the previous regime. I've had no luck hearing back from the Bronxville HS coach so I have no idea what's next for the Conway brothers.

    Jim,
These kids have likely letters from admissions.
Has the coaching staff been in contact with them?

  4. Gilligan-Evans is committed to Holy Cross so I would say that the Yale coaches are not in contact with him. He did meet with the Yale coaching staff twice after Reno was hired. I have made multiple efforts to contract the high school coach of the Conways without success so can't tell you how much contact there has been between the parties.

  6. Walt,

The Register's college sports editor Bill Cloutier has a blog http://cloutierblognhr.blogspot.com/

He addresses all the New Haven area programs in there including Yale men's and women's basketball so perhaps you could post comments in there for him to respond to.
