Another candidate for Yale?

Pretty interesting report by the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora that Yale has expressed an interest in Miami Dolphins assistant Karl Dorrell.

I haven't heard his name mentioned with the Yale search before but the report did say that his contract is expiring at the end of the season (which for Miami already happened). Dorrell was the head coach at UCLA from 2003-07, compiling a 35-27 record.

I had him on my list a couple of weeks ago - D1A headcoaching experience, available because of situation with the Dolphins. Problem is he's another west coast guy. I don't think its a coincidence that the 4 rumored candidates are all rooted in the northeast. Still. . . .

An interesting name, and, I understand, a fine person and a decent coach (a better record at UCLA than Neuheisel). But, I wonder how he would be able to deal with the mysterious ways of Yale and the Ivies. I think that was part of Williams' problems.

I agree we would be better with someone who knows the Ivies at least a little bit. Maybe his agent floated this to help get his name out there some more.

If you are referring to the challenge of recruiting scholar athletes and working within the academic index, I disagree. The two classes that they recruited are geographically diverse and fast, both indications in my book of effective recruiting. I think the bigger issue was the transition from assistant to head coach. Great motivator, but not such a good manager. You just never really know when someone gets to the next level how well they will adjust to the new role. I have to agree, though, that it is an interesting name.
