More on Yale's early admits

Yale is up to 12 early commitments with the Bulldogs continued focus on the offensive and defensive lines paying dividends with the addition of linemen Max Fink and Kyle Rouse to previously admitted linemen Ben Carbery, William Chism, Steve Shoemaker, Seth Walker, Chris Coyne and Pat Murray.

Another new name is Choate running back Kahlil Keys although I am not sure "new" is the proper word since Keys was recruited by Yale last year and encouraged to spend a season at Choate. Bergen Catholic defensive back Nick LaTesta and Tyler Hutchison, a quarterback at Huntington (W.V.) High have also been accepted at Yale.

Here is a list of the 12 early admits
OL Ben Carbery, Oak Park HS, River Forest, Ill.: A three-year starter on the offensive line
OL William Chism, Saint Andrews Episcopal School in Ridgeland, Miss.: Leader of offensive line which averaged more than 300 rushing yards per game
DE Chris Coyne, Staples (Westport): 106 tackles, 12 sacks as a senior
DL Max Fink, Gulliver Prep, Miami: 13 sacks as a junior
RB Kahlil Keys, Choate (Wallingford): Ran for 277 yards and three TDs against Taft
DB Nick LaTesta Bergen Catholic, Oradell, N.J.: 47 tackles, 4 interceptions as a senior
QB Tyler Hutchison, Huntington (W.V.): Had more than 1,400 yards and 18 TDs as senior
RB/LB Everett Johnson Union (N.J.): Sideline to sideline defensive player with 5.65 GPA
DE/LB Pat Murray, Staples (Westport): 107 tackles, 15 sacks as a senior
OL/DL Kyle Rouse, Joliet (Ill.) Catholic: Paved way for two 1,000-yard rushers
OL Stephen Shoemaker, Bronxville (N.Y.): Named outstanding lineman for state championship squad
OL Seth Walker, Pope John II, Nashville, Tenn.: Named to Hendersonville Star News All-County squad as an offensive lineman.

Are Walker and Chisum still coming?

  2. That was an oversight on my part. Chism and Walker have been accepted as well bringing the number of recruits to 12.

Does anyone ever try ranking the Ivy League recruiting classes?

  4. I'm not sure that anybody sees enough of the recruits to accurately rank them. The national recruiting rankings carry little weight in my opinion. The only way to truly rank recruiting classes is after they've been in college for a couple of years.

Any info the height and weight of Max Fink? Also, will there be any more early admits?

  6. I believe Max Fink is in the 6-1, 215 range.

I'm keeping an eye on L.J. Hunt out of St. Joseph in Trumbull. He was a candidate for early admission but retook his SATs to try to get into a band Yale had planned for him. I spoke to his high school coach yesterday and he didn't hear anything about his scores so it's possible he'll end up being admitted later. Other than that I am not expecting any more early admits.

Any more recruit news? Yale's had couple weekends of visits and coming up on national signing day..

  8. Yale did have a large number of recruits in but even if they commit, they have to have their transcripts read and approved by the Yale admissions department.

I have confirmed that L.J. Hunt, a defensive back out of St. Joseph, did get the SAT scores he needed to fit into the recruiting band Yale had him slotted for. Assuming there are no hiccups, he would be the 13th player to be accepted early. While news of other recruits may trickle in from time to time, the full class most likely won't be announced until early June.

The national signing day is irrelevant for Ivy League schools unless players committed to an Ivy League change their mind and sign with a scholarship school.
